Job Summary:

Manages production and maintenance operations for asphalt plants to oversee efficiency and to produce a quality asphalt product by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

Operations:

  1. Oversees the operation and maintenance of all asphalt plants and equipment, including the scheduling and setting-up of new or temporary plant operations.

  2. Coordinates with portable trucking foreman, general superintendent, asphalt crew, inspectors and subcontractors to meet the needs of customers.

  3. Ensures availability of materials needed to meet required productions levels including aggregates and asphalt oil and ensures that mixes meet quality standards and specifications established by DOT, project engineers or other governing agencies.

Supervisory:

  1. Directs activities of all asphalt plant personnel and monitors their performance against established standards.

  2. Ensures adequate staffing levels while controlling labor costs within assigned areas.

  3. Approve and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information daily

  4. Coaches and develops employees into decision making and policy compliance and provides corrections when needed.

  5. Conducts wage reviews and periodic performance evaluations.

  6. Is responsible for safety practices, training programs and certifications of all plant personnel.

  7. Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.

  8. Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others.

  9. Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.

  10. Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, Lockout/Tagout, safety and environmental regulation compliance.

Administrative:

  1. Responsible for timely and accurate record keeping and reporting for asphalt plant personnel and operations

  2. Assists in preparation of Asphalt operations and capital equipment budgets.

  3. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Over 2 years up to and including 4 years from post high school, work, military, institutional or vocational environment or equivalent experience.

  2. Minimum 3 years of experience in product line and/or supervisory role.

  3. Driver’s License required with acceptable driving record. CDL preferred.

Schedule

Production season this position will average 65 -70 hours per week.

Maintenance season this position will average 40 - 45 hours per week.
