Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 15 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
This position is a Production Specialist (P-Spec) within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission & Distribution organizational unit. The successful candidate will focus on construction activities, providing direction to crews on work order execution plans, and strategically structuring work activities within their work unit to optimize safety, productivity, and cost efficiency. This position will report directly to a Field Supervisor.
Responsible for organizing work, making sound decisions, and developing and implementing strategies to execute work on time and in the most productive and cost efficient manner possible.
Makes recommendations to Field Supervisor and directs E-crews in order to maximize crew productivity and cost efficiency by: Combining field experience of construction methods and a thorough understanding of productivity calculation to recommend manpower required to complete each job; applying a thorough understanding of productivity and the impact of fatigue, premium time, and resource allocation to work unit performance; ensuring the work order is executable and meets customer needs; ensuring all designs comply with design and construction standards; organizing construction activities and validating constructability and that crew has all required resources such as equipment, materials, and access to jobsite; and developing execution strategy, optimal scheduling, and job coordination to completion.
Assists Field Supervisor with the growth and development of E-crew foremen and linemen by: educating crews on throughput, cost efficiency, and other productivity metrics; providing feedback and coaching to e-crew foremen and linemen related to the production of high quality work orders; working with Field Supervisor to identify areas of improvement for each project; and serving as an upgrade in the absence of the Field Supervisor.
Ensures optimal efficiency of large projects by visiting jobsite during construction to explore opportunities for improvement with foreman while integrating lessons learned and applying the most up-to-date construction processes, environmental and health regulations, and design and construction standards (including, but not limited to, distribution design standards, Electrical Service Requirements, Construction/Maintenance Standards and GO 95 and 128 regulations.)
Maintains thorough knowledge and understanding of updated processes, equipment, design and construction standards, and environmental and health regulations. In addition, applies unique blend of technical knowledge and field experience to manage cost efficiency among crews.
Establishes and maintains high standards of excellence, communicating frequently and openly, engaging others in the solution of electrical distribution system problems and responding professionally to personnel requirements.
Creating and maintaining a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Presently be or have prior experience as a journeyman lineman.
Experience with client/customer management providing exceptional customer service, customer satisfaction, building relationships with customers, identifying customer needs, and responding to customer issues.
Possess and be able to maintain a valid Driver’s License.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Typically possesses 4 years of experience in electrical construction, planning, or scheduling.
Supervisory or team leadership experience.
Completing multiple projects/assignments concurrently while adjusting to changing priorities.
Interfacing and collaborating with crews, customers, local supervision, and other departments to develop solutions.
Broad knowledge in construction and maintenance and recognized within the district as an expert, not only as an effective foreman/lineman, but also technically qualified to implement strategies to maximize productivity.
Proficient with MS Office Suite.
Practicing and enforcing safety protocols and safe work practices.
Project Management Certificate or an equivalent combination of training and experience in project management.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Position will require 50% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
