About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
This position will be in the Technical Design department within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T&D). Reviewing project plans and construction drawings to identify the permits required to support construction of SCE facilities. The Senior Permitting Specialist will determine the appropriate internal resources to be utilized to obtain public right of way permits. This person will be regularly communicating with various governmental agencies and other external organizations to obtain favorable permit conditions for the installation of SCE facilities.
Typical Responsibilities :
Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Developing and maintaining relationships with permitting staff of the various governmental agencies to ensure accurate application submittals and timely approval of permit requests.
Ensuring permit applications are properly identified and prepared for submittal to permitting agencies; submitting permit applications and obtaining approved permits from the responsible permitting agencies.
Acting as a single point of contact for internally and externally generated questions related to permit applications; providing approved permits to appropriate project managers or construction personnel prior to start of construction.
Tracking status of permit applications; reporting status of permit applications to all internal stakeholders; mentoring entry level permit & contract specialists.
Performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Five or more years’ of experience in permitting, planning, engineering, construction, inspection, utility Design, and/or project management.
Two or more years’ of experience identifying the need, applying for, and acquiring Construction Permits.
Two or more years’ of experience reviewing and interpreting construction drawings, plans, maps, and/or designs.
Valid Driver’s License.
Experience with acquiring encroachment, excavation and/or traffic control permits.
Experience interfacing with governmental agencies in order to acquire necessary construction permits.
Experience working within construction timelines and with various construction personnel and clients.
Experience reporting on project status to internal and external stakeholders.
Experience acting as the point of contact for internal and external generated questions related to permit applications.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Relocation does not apply to this position.
Position will require up to 50% traveling and being out in the field within the local SCE service territory.
