Become a Java Developer at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be responsible for developing software to integrate the Grid Management System (GMS) with other applications within SCE and on the cloud. Provide technical leadership in day-to-day technical activities to design and develop these interface adapters. Post go-live of GMS project, you will continue to develop any enhancements needed or troubleshoot and fix any reported issues on these interfaces. A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Working with the business clients to understand their requirements and ongoing strategy to provide technical solutions for meeting their short-term and long-term business goals.

  • Design and architect solutions that are resilient and secure and comply with SCE’s cyber standards.

  • Be part of an Agile development team developing integration applications from scratch using the Java Spring Boot framework.

  • Perform complex analysis, consultation, and provide recommendations to address complex technical issues as they relate to the operation and control of an electric utility as well as lead the implementation and deployment of replacement, upgrade, or enhanced versions of the applications and platforms.

  • Brainstorm architecture, design and implementation strategies with the team.

  • Through breadth and depth of advanced technical knowledge, provides application and system subject matter expertise for related systems.

  • Communicate to peers, PSC Management team, IT support teams, IT leadership, and SCE executives regarding short-term and long-term system goals and technology roadmap.

  • Collaborate with vendors and senior leadership directly as well as engineers, IT specialists, architects, and analysts from various disciplines to achieve desired business outcomes.


The Essentials

  • Seven years of full stack development experience using Java EE.

  • Seven years of experience working on large scale enterprise grade applications troubleshooting and resolving distributed applications.

  • Three years of hands-on Microservices development using Spring Boot framework, building scalable/secure Restful style APIs.

  • Experience in an Agile development team with hands-on knowledge of DevOps tools and CI/CD practices.

The Preferred

  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Science/Technology, or related field.

  • Strong understanding of Cybersecurity standards and trust zones to implement a defense in depth application security.

  • Good understanding of infrastructure and networking capabilities to design resilient systems.

  • Understanding of OpenAPI Standards.

  • Experience in troubleshooting message transactions spanning multiple applications across different security trust zones.

  • Understanding of Kubernetes and deployment of application containers to a K8S cluster.

  • Experience with Containerization of services.

  • Technical knowledge of Transmission and Distribution networks, SCADA and control systems.

  • Leadership experience working with cross-functional teams, clients and vendors.

  • Strong interpersonal, influence, and negotiation skills.
