Position Overview

As a Category Manager for Southern California Edison you will be supporting, developing and executing procurement strategies for the Direct Services group within Supply Management that administers over $2,000,000,000 in annual spend. It’s challenging but rewarding work. Your interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills will be fully exercised as you manage a variety of categories with a focus on cost savings, compliance management and risk mitigation. You will be responsible for supporting and maintaining data analytics pertaining to contractor scorecard improvement, development and optimization of category strategy initiatives, continuous improvement initiatives, and commercial requests. Supports data requests pertaining to safety metrics, Grid Mod, ISNetworld, Bit sight, Cyber Assessments, Wildfires, and contractor Corrective Action Plans. Responsible for competitive solicitation, contractor selection, development of contracts, contract language, and associated terms and conditions to ensure appropriate risk mitigation. Accountable for the development and implementation of supply chain strategies and business processes to meet Company, department, and business unit goals and objectives.

Typical Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for procurement and strategies for multiple organizational units across a broad client base. The successful candidate will also serve in a lead position within Supply Management providing functional direction and mentoring to procurement personnel on routine and complex projects.Typical responsibilities would include:

  • Responsible for negotiating contractual terms and other related commercial items to ensure Edison receives the best value possible while mitigating potential risk factors.

  • Develop and maintain Outline Agreements, Source Lists, and monitor PO Automation across various categories.

  • Responsible for the timely coordination and resolution of field disagreements and potential disputes in collaboration with organizational unit representatives to assure work is completed in accordance with contract requirements and the business unit’s expectations.

  • Negotiate contract terms and other related commercial items.

  • Works directly with various suppliers and internal clients at all levels to maintain effective supplier relationships.

  • Responsible for the development, monitoring, and implementation of supplier performance goals related to cost, quality and service-related functions.

  • Lead the development, monitoring, and implementation of contractor scorecards and related continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Acquires and maintains understanding of technology trends, market forces, cost trends, and supplier technology road map.

  • Reviews Purchase Order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy, and discusses defects and delivery problems with suppliers and negotiate refunds.

  • Maintains the Project Management of Corrective Action Plans for all of Direct Services contractors and scorecards.

  • Manages all incremental client data requests related to commercial, safety metrics, ISNetWorld, Field glass, Click Software, Cybersecurity and spend requests.

  • Determines the appropriate data strategy to maximize the potential operational and commercial value to be received for various category spend strategies.

  • Executes Purchase Orders, Change Orders, and Request for Proposals across various categories.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Seven (7) years’ experience in contract management, organizational program management, and/or project management including:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with internal and external personnel.

  • Experience with procurement fundamentals, sourcing strategies and negotiation skills.

  • Knowledgeable in and able to effectively use PC software applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Supply Chain or related field.

  • Experience with procurement contracts and standard terms and conditions.

  • Experience with service related contracts including fixed price, fixed unit price, time and material contracts.

  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and effectively.

  • Ability to apply principles of financial analysis.

  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, including oral presentations, group facilitation and negotiations.

  • Ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

  • Effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.

  • Strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and safe work practices.

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM).

  • Experience with SAP Ariba source to pay supply chain software.


  • Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.

  • The primary work location for this position is Santa Ana, CA.

  • Position will require up to 40% travel within the local SCE service territory.

  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
