ATS is a multidisciplinary team of over 120 engineers, scientists, and technicians. ATS high value services also help proactively avoid future problems by specifying equipment, materials and methods that are best practices in the industry.

This is in the Welding & 3D Technology Services department of PG&E’s Applied Technology Services (ATS) organization. This unit provides welding technical expertise, project consultation, fabrication and inspection oversight, weld program management, development of specialty weld repairs, inspections, examinations and testing. It also provides 3D laser scanning services for use in design and fabrication, reverse engineering, dimensional control and analysis, as-built documentation, failure analysis and virtual simulation applications.

Position Summary

This position is represented by Engineers & Scientists of California (ESC), subject to collective bargaining.

A successful candidate will have experience performing precision measurements and collecting point cloud data using laser trackers and laser scanners and be competent at interpreting drawings and GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing). The candidate will have worked with some of these pieces of equipment: Leica AT930 and AT960 trackers, Leica BLK360 and RTC360 scanners, Surphaser HSX 100 scanner, Romer Absolute Arm, and the Creaform HS700 and Black portable scanners. Strong knowledge on laser scanning methods, measurement techniques and quality checks for scanning of facilities, equipment and machinery where high accuracy is required. Proficient in the use of software to process, align and analysis the 3D data. This includes a good working knowledge with most of the following software packages: PolyWorks, Creo Design, Cyclone Register, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Geomagic Design X, VX Elements/PipeCheck and FARO Scene. Strong oral and written communication skills with a customer focus and a can do attitude are required. You will need to have either, an AA degree in science, or 7 years relevant work experience in Laser Metrology services.

Travel requirement: 50% of the time, throughout the PG&E territory.

Responsibilities

  • Safety: Demonstrate safe working practices at all times. Strong focus on customer, general public and employee safety in all work practices.

  • Successful candidates should work well with others and have a client focus. Job requires developing and promoting strong client relationships, having a can-do attitude and being sensitive to client issues.

  • Job Management: Plan, schedule and implement lab and field scanning and metrology jobs and administer outside contract work effectively.

  • Develop scanning plan, set-up equipment and perform precision measurements and/or collect 3D point cloud data for jobs at the ATS lab and field sites.

  • Process, align and analyze 3D data using applicable workflow and software packages.

  • Perform general maintenance of equipment and ensure equipment is calibrated and prepared for daily jobs.

  • Order consumable supplies and other required equipment and tooling in preparation for scanning jobs

  • Prepare and review technical reports for scanning and metrology jobs performed by others and self.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Possess a 2 year AA of Science degree or 7 years relevant work experience.

  • 5 years of hands-on practical experience in laser scanning and precision metrology services.

  • Proficient with laser trackers and scanning equipment.

  • Proficient with the processing, aligning, interpreting and analysis of 3D point cloud data and dimensional analysis of tracker data.

  • Knowledgeable with MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Desired:

  • CMS (Coordinated Metrology Society)Certification to Level 1 or 2.
