Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. Overall, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.
Gas System Operations' mission is to operate PG&E's gas system to deliver natural gas safely and reliably to customers, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, by controlling, routing, and continuously monitoring the flow, pressure, and quality of gas. The Gas System Planning department models and analyzes gas infrastructure and system loading, to identify conditions which may adversely impact service reliability or safety, and to recommend system improvements.
The Outage Management Gas Engineer, within Gas Control Strategy & Support, Operations Engineering works with a small team consisting of one supervisor, one operations specialist, and several engineers who are responsible for maintaining the schedule of record for planned maintenance and construction work (planned outages) on PG&E's gas transmission system.
The Gas Outage Scheduling Engineer is responsible for interfacing with various project teams across PG&E's service territory, leading outage scheduling for jobs impacting PG&E's backbone, storage and local transmission system. This individual will coordinate and prioritize needs, act as a program manager in developing and maintaining an integrated/optimized planned outage schedule, and monitor activities of various pipeline, station, and storage projects. As part of scheduling transmission system outages, the Engineer will ask probing questions of project teams, gas system planners and other parties in order to balance the needs of our internal clients and our external clients. The Engineer will maintain the official outage schedule and convene monthly meetings, where the impacts of all transmission system outages are discussed with our internal clients and stakeholders. Additionally, the Gas Engineer will support Outage Management's efforts to continually improve and enhance our outage management tools and
processes in Gas System Planning.
Acts as a program manager for the development and maintenance of the integrated/optimized planned gas outage schedule.
Oversees the official gas transmission outage schedule.
Provides final approval for the timing, sequencing, and duration of planned gas outages.
Collaborates to mitigate scheduling conflicts in order to facilitate the completion of all workflow within the system, and maximize the safety and reliability of the system.
Leads meetings with internal clients and external stakeholders regarding planned gas outage work and provides resolutions to impacts.
Researches outage schedule issues and provides recommendations to gas system planners, project teams, and other parties to balance the needs of internal and external clients.
Reviews recommendations regarding risk and mitigation strategies.
Evaluates methodologies, best practices, processes, and procedures from the impacts of planned gas outages.
Determines and documents all scheduling interdependencies of the gas outage schedule.
Continuously monitors and initiates revisions (when necessary) to scheduling interdependencies and ensures the gas outage schedule supports all dependencies.
Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Must have 3 or more years of experience in the gas industry, or related experience
Ability to obtain a valid California Drivers’ License
Occasional travel within PG&E Service territory Desired:
Experience in utility, gas transmission and/or distribution, gas operations or gas maintenance.
Experience in the scheduling of jobs or goods and services
Experience in the facilitation of meetings and issue resolution.
Experience in the use of an ERP (Enterprise Planning Resource) Systems such as SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, UNIX, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.
Experience in Business Metrics/Analytics for developing, quantifying and evaluating the transformation of internal and external information into business intelligence.
Microsoft Suite user including but not limited to Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Visio
Experience with Professional Scheduling Software such as: Oracle P6 (Primavera), SAP RPM, Tenrox, ZOHO, Conclusion, MS Project, etc.
