Applied Technology Services (ATS) is a multidisciplinary team of over 100 engineers, scientists, and technicians committed to delivering practical solutions to PG&E's most challenging problems. We provide testing and analysis services throughout the Company, including Generation, Transmission & Distribution, Customer Care, and Shared Services. ATS has been providing technology-based, innovative, high-value services to the PG&E for over 35 years.
Provides engineering, testing and analysis services and expertise across multiple disciplines to various company organizations to identify, diagnose and solve technical problems. Provides consultation to clients to proactively avoid future problems. Conducts inspections, failure analysis, performance assessments, and evaluations on a wide variety of systems and components. Partners with management to create bid proposals for requested client work.
Energy Efficiency Codes & Standards – Primarily perform energy codes and standards testing in the laboratory on advanced HVAC systems, heat pumps, boilers and other commercial and residential appliances. The lab testing includes test procedure development, test stand design and build-out, operational control and data acquisition system set-up, testing and reporting. All lab testing must be performed in accordance with our quality program and be in compliance with ISO-17025 requirements.
Energy Efficiency technical due-diligence review – Work on and/or manage projects and programs to determine energy savings opportunities for Industrial, Agricultural, third party programs and other customers to support PG&E’s energy efficiency programs. This may involve engineering analysis, modeling, or testing of process systems and equipment to determine baseline and alternative systems performance, and review of consultant work in these areas. In addition, this may involve assisting in ensuring ATS’s compliance with quality and policy requirements, as well as budgeting and scheduling functions.
Emerging Technologies Testing and Evaluation - Work on and manage projects involving emerging technologies aimed at improving customer energy efficiency or for renewable energy applications. This may involve set-up and execution of lab tests, engineering analysis, and modeling to evaluate performance of these new technologies. Testing may include laboratory or field projects. Results are documented in technical reports.
General Mechanical Engineering Testing and Analysis - Work on special projects requiring engineering analysis and/or testing. This typically involves thermal/hydraulic problem solving and analysis, and may include specialized testing and evaluation at PG&E facilities such as power plants, gas compressor stations, substations, or in the laboratory.
General –Exercises independent judgment in leading and resolving problems of large impact, scope and complexity with few precedents or standards requiring integration of information from a variety of sources. Leads team determining scope, schedule, budget and preparing client bid proposals; recognized as a SME in one discipline or type of ATS service and provides breadth of knowledge and performs analysis and projects across several disciplines; Searches for new practical solutions to highly complex problems; Assesses business conditions, identifies opportunities and develops projects & solutions from a multifunctional or multidisciplinary perspective; leads project teams performing tests to identify, define, solve problems and prepare technical reports and specifications. Prepares and delivers presentations and recommendations to clients based on project results/findings; Oversees assembly of technical system and prototypes according to engineering standards and knowledge of related principles. Modifies prototypes, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations. Continually identifies testing or process improvements; Develops, evaluates and deploys new technologies. Identifies innovations and cost-reduction potential of new and existing technologies; May provide expert opinion or information related to projects or other issues to external customers, agencies or other parties; Interfaces with clients to understand expectations, concerns and ensure strong customer satisfaction; May represent PG&E at industry association meetings or seminars

7 years of mechanical and/or chemical engineering
Experience in any of the following areas: energy codes and standards, customer energy efficiency, thermal performance testing and analysis, energy storage systems and renewable energy, and/or distributed generation technologies
Bachelors Degree in Engineering or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
Ability to work independently, managing or performing complex projects.
Strong technical writing skills
Experience with laboratory testing and instrumentation/measurement systems, including Labview and other data acquisition equipment
Experience with laboratory quality assurance programs
Experience managing programs and/or people in the areas described above
Masters Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
