Department Overview

Engineering and Design DevOps team under Gas & Electric Business Technology group is responsible for application development and support of many business-critical applications. This team is involved in day to day support of operations in addition to enhancing the applications as well. We also get involved in projects and create new applications as needed by the business. These applications are used by many lines of businesses internally and some of the applications are for external clients too.

Position Summary

  • The successful candidate will be helping with the day to day support activities to the business users from the IT point of view.

  • Act as a liaison and work with the business and Bentley and AutoCAD vendor teams.

  • Will act as a IT SME for Bentley and AutoCAD products and work with the project teams as a tech lead in defining the infrastructure needs, suggesting the best practices.

  • Lead the other IT team members supporting these products and provide upward status updates.

  • Monitor the performance of the infrastructure and make sure platforms are up to date working with the vendors on the necessary patches/upgrades

  • Coordinate the product/project releases and actively participate in the Disaster Recovery exercises to make sure the platforms are reliable



  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or equivalent experience and/or field of study

  • Minimum 7 years of programming support and analysis experience

  • Experienced in supporting Bentley and AutoCAD product suites

  • Leading operational teams

  • Proven knowledge with programming support principals to enhance and maintain system performance

  • Expert understanding of troubleshooting, diagnosing, and maintaining software, how it works, and how it often breaks


  • Advanced Degree

  • Ability to create complex test beds, creates test scenarios, create regression tests, document and assess software reliability

Work Scope: Possesses broad technological expertise. Assignments are complex, have major associated risks with high visibility. Solid understanding of Application Development Frameworks and Coding standard. Support governance of development standards and frameworks. Responsible for diagnosing and correcting complex production issues. Full understanding of combined technical, business, and processes areas. Solid understanding of PG&E Production methodology and compliance processes and impact to client projects. Applies significant technical concepts of subject area and procedures and techniques; ability to use and define technical details of assigned work. Serves as key technical resource with areas of specialization.

  • Problem Solving: Resolves application programming problems of complex scope through cross-functional team participation

  • Internal/External Contact: Runs O&M team meetings

  • Provides and documents resource estimates in response to business service requests

  • Lead less experienced Application Support Analysts on technically complex projects or work

  • Solid understanding of the impact to all application areas of systems/sub-systems modifications and enhancements; has broad, over-arching understanding of impact to IT

  • Leads teams of programmer- analysts

  • Keeps up with programming trends

  • Provides input on deployment plans
