The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.
As a Design Engineer, you will be the vital link between the Company and widespread interconnection of generation, customer capacity (residential, commercial and industrial), and reliability improvements in California. Your role will be to ensure that the Company provides excellent service for these projects. Prepare detailed construction drawings for Transmission Line projects using PLS-CADD and MicroStation software
Design Transmission lines, structures and equipment in accordance with regulations and standards
Ensure delivery of high quality design products on budget, on time and on purpose
Ensure Transmission Line infrastructure meets company and industry standards.
Construction Support – Attend field meetings and provide on-site assistance to construction crews
Quality Control - Provide valuable input in evaluating and cross-checking peers and contractors
Design Engineering is an integral part of the Transmission Lines Design Engineering Department at Pacific Gas & Electric Company. The design engineering team supports the Company’s capital investment on transmission line projects. This team is responsible for the preparation of detailed construction drawings for transmission lines. We provide design engineering expertise to upgrade, expand and replace the Company's infrastructure in the following:
Transmission line equipment
Design of foundations and structures
Technical assistance on feasibility studies
Review design and construction drawings prepared by contractors
As-builts and record keeping
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or job-related discipline or equivalent experience. Equivalency may include education and design drafting experience totaling six years, or education and experience totaling four years including two years at PG&E as a Design Drafter or Senior Design Drafter.
1 year of experience in transmission line related design
Familiarity with PG&E standards and processes
Experience with PLS CADD (Transmission Line modeling software)
Must have a working knowledge of material and equipment including commonly used national specifications and standards, building, or other appropriate codes and fundamental engineering principles and techniques.
