The Strategy Formulation team within the Strategy and Policy (S&P) Organization designs strategies and policies that support the evolution of PG&E’s role in the evolving California energy landscape. The team works across lines of business at PG&E to develop comprehensive strategies and policies that integrate significant thought leadership in the areas of grid, supply strategy, pricing, and pilots. The team utilizes effective project management, strong written communication and facilitation skills, and breadth of scope to bring together a broad set of goals and objectives. Focus areas for the team include designing an integrated vision of the role PG&E will play in the future, developing and executing on a road map for sharing that vision, identifying ideas for new pilots to test these ideas and shaping the regulatory processes addressing market reform and retail choice.
The Principal will be responsible for leading one or more, and supporting several work streams in the gas strategy initiative. Work will encompass project managing complex analysis associated with the potential impact of electrification on gas and electric business and taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. The principal will identify, scope, and manage cross-functional initiatives. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to apply analytical tools, methodologies, and frameworks to business or policy issues. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate excellent communication skills in executive and regulatory settings.
Provides significant contribution to PG&E-wide work streams, acting as a thought leader applying extensive unique subject matter expertise in the development of strategy or resolution of complex issues.
Assess alternative electrification approaches, taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
Designs and develops regulatory and commercial strategies or policy positions.
Leads identification, development, implementation, and resolution of issues associated with complex, cross-functional strategy and policy matters at PG&E.
Researches emerging regulatory and policy issues.
Designs and implements processes and systems for strategy development and implementation.
Represents Strategy and Analytics on cross-organizational working teams within PG&E.
Negotiates and advocates on behalf of PG&E in regulatory forums and interactions with external stakeholders.
Testifies on technical and policy issues.
Leads and manages project teams and major cross-functional initiatives.
Leads business process improvements for analysis or advocacy activities.
Works with Officers and Directors to support strategic planning and decision making.
Designs and develops material for senior level communications.
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Finance, Sociology, Engineering, Physics or other related fields or equivalent work experience
8 or more years of relevant experience
Advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
At least five years performing analytic work related to electric or natural gas policy, planning, regulation, or wholesale markets.
At least three years working at electric or natural gas utilities, independent power producers, wholesale energy market participants, regulatory agencies, consulting firms, or similar organizations.
Solid understanding of California regulatory context
Understanding of retail and wholesale gas and electric markets
Demonstrated expertise in applying analytical tools, methodologies, and frameworks to business or policy issues in the electric or natural gas industries
Proficiency with tools and methods for project management and continuous improvement
Experience with Design Thinking tools and processes
