Department Overview

The Grid Edge team has a unique calling – to bridge strategy and execution by developing, testing and iterating on strategy and technology roadmaps that will enable PG&E to operate the grid of the future, the grid with one million solar customers, two million electric vehicles, and 1000+ MW of energy storage. With a variety of strategic focus areas ranging from microgrids to blockchain, the Grid Edge team works cross-functionally to bring various PG&E lines of business together

Position Summary

The Product Manager role will support two blockchain pilots, which are currently in early planning stages. This means this role enables you to contribute to the project planning, design, test, and evaluation, seeing both distributed applications through an entire iterative product test lifecycle. Specifically, your time will be spent supporting developing, measuring, and managing test hypothesis and success metrics and developing or collaborating with partners to develop web 3 solutions: smart contracts, layer 2 solutions and distributed applications (d’apps). You will also work on strategic quantitative analysis of scaled solutions and assure implementation of the projects on time and within budget. The team has a variety of additional R&D projects that you may support, including projects focused on electrification and microgrids.

Job Responsibilities

  • Aid in the development of proof-of-concepts, demonstrations and pilots that showcase and test a variety of blockchain technologies and processes focused on electric vehicles, distributed energy resources grid integration, microgrids, and supply chain & asset management.

  • Provide supporting technical quantitative and qualitative analysis to support the design, test and evaluation of grid-focused R&D pilots.

  • Support technical leads and IT team to work with technology vendors to architect and develop smart contracts to execute complex energy and asset focused transactions

  • Support technical leads to provide direction and user insights to help design customer-friendly UI/UX

  • Work with technical lead and software engineering team to coordinate with external vendors for implementation, testing, and troubleshooting

  • Work with key stakeholders to standardize data ingestion and ensure data quality

  • Coordinate meetings and engage stakeholders – drive project execution across GII, IT, Customer Care, Electric T&D, key partners, end-users, and vendors

  • Help develop communications materials to engage PG&E leadership, internal program management teams and external stakeholders in GII’s pilot work

  • Gather metrics and work with project lead to keep pilots within specified scope, schedule, cost, and quality objectives.

  • Aid in development and execution of external contracts, like non-disclosure agreements

  • Lead pilot final closeout report writing process with contributing stakeholders

  • Manage lessons learned process and develop an iterative feedback loop to ensure pilot teams are nimble and adaptable

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Currently holds a Bachelors Degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience or can produce documentation showing attainment of a Bachelor's degree prior to start date

Desired:

  • Basic technical understanding of overall electric grid design and operations

  • Basic understanding of California energy markets, policy and regulation

  • Experience working on technology pilots and/or product implementation. Bonus if you have experience working on innovative software engineering initiatives

  • Strong front-end development skillset (e.g. JavaScript, HTML CSS)

  • Familiarity with lower level programming languages (e.g. Rust, C++)

  • Experience working with Ethereum platform development tools, such as Truffle, Ganache, Remix IDE, MetaMask

  • Very familiar with blockchain technology and key players within and outside of the energy industry

  • Basic front or back-end programming skills

  • Introductory understanding of the blockchain technology stack and ecosystem

  • Analytically-minded, with some experience developing quantitative analysis

  • Strong verbal / written communication and presentation skills
