PG&E’s Information Technology (IT) organization is a unified organization comprised of various departments which collaborate effectively in order to deliver high quality technology solutions.
The Enterprise Mobility Center of Excellence (Digital Catalyst) is a new enterprise team that is responsible for working collaboratively with the lines of business (e.g., Gas Operations, Electric Operations, etc.) to implement consumer grade mobile solutions across various user groups (e.g., field users, office workers, etc.).
This includes, but is not limited to:
Deploying best-in-class / rapid delivery capability for mobile solutions
Simplifying, improving, and standardizing business work management processes for mobile needs
The Digital Catalyst team consists of a staff of highly skilled professionals working together to produce mobile solutions following an agile methodology. We are a “start-up” department within IT and building a team of driven and creative mobile developers. We take the time to understand our partners’ needs and translate those into solutions that delight our users. Our goal is to deliver products with intuitive user experience that will improve PG&E employees’ safety, productivity and overall well-being.
We are seeking an experienced Leader in Digital Catalyst to take on the role of Head of Engineering and Platforms , driving the technical excellence and innovation of custom products across mobile app development. We are looking for a fast learner, motivated by leading engineering teams building mobile apps and modern web apps. You will help the engineering teams communicate, solve problems, and deliver great product by facilitating relationships with Product Teams and other IT stakeholder groups such as Security, Infrastructure, and Application teams such as SAP.
This role requires being an experienced leader of agile software teams (i.e. XP, lean, modern agile), with a focus on coaching team members, to driving continuous innovation and learning that improve yourself and the team. Your leadership will help empower product teams to execute with speed; agility and help support thousands of field workers do their jobs on a daily basis.

BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, Engineering, or other relevant field or equivalent work experience
Minimum 10 years of software development experience with minimum 2 years managing software engineers, preferably across multiple teams
Strong full-stack technical experience, with an emphasis on mobile app or web applications
Ability to quickly learn new technologies and methodologies to support the engineers
in building high quality, scalable and resilient systems
A leadership style that emphasizes openness and transparency, high quality standards, and a fully engaged, blame-free engineering culture
Proven success motivating teams to excellence, fostering the leadership and professional development of all individuals
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, across diverse groups, both technical and non-technical
Comfort in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Experience with modern software engineering tools and best practices (e.g. Jira, CI/CD, Jenkins, git)Desired:
MS or MBA degree in Business Administration or Computer Science
PMP or other project management certification
Working with any of the following, iOS development, ReactJS, API Development, GraphQL, Responsive web applications
Experience with private cloud and public could stacks such as Amazon Web Services
Experience building mobile and web apps in a enterprise context using enterprise technologies (Identity, monitoring etc.) and integrating to enterprise systems such as SAP
Managing a team of offsite Engineers
Experience with offline sync, micro-services, event-based architecture, mapping technologies (ESRI)
Manage multiple teams of Engineers, with a focus on building suite of products around to enable people working on Assets in the field
Work closely with the Director of Product Management to evaluate tech roadmap & policies based on planned products/initiatives while staying abreast of tech/industry trends
Create and maintain relationships with partner IT organizations that support the mobile technology infrastructure
Support Team Leads in effective management of an agile/lean process within each team, in close partnership with Product Managers
Provide technical mentorship, professional development, and process guidance for engineers of all experience levels
Ensure strong collaboration and effective partnership between Engineering and related teams, including DevOps, Product, Test, business stakeholders
Provide capacity targets and performance reporting for your teams
Ensure that all Engineering projects and initiatives are in conformance with established policies and objectives
Play a leading role in software/platform/application architectural evolution and diagnosing complex issues as they arise
Collaborate with other Engineering and Product leaders to develop cross-team practices and processes that foster a culture of innovation and excellence
