Department Overview

The Sourcing organization is the functional lead for the procurement of materials and services at Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The department collaborates with internal clients and suppliers managing $5 billion of annual company spend to develop mutually beneficial total cost solutions for goods and services. The department provides the following services to internal clients: procurement of goods and services, strategic sourcing and cost savings, contract management, supplier relationship management, supplier diversity planning, execution and outreach, compliance management, ongoing procurement field support and management of the procure to pay cycle.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Sourcing Category Lead, Senior in San Francisco, CA or in the East Bay area. This position will report to the Sourcing Portfolio Manager, Corporate Services, and will manage several sourcing functions of the indirect spend category. This category includes Benefits, Safety, Contingent Labor, Consulting Services, Training, Real Estate, Facilities Management, and Construction Delivery Partners, amongst others. This position typically manages categories from $10M up to $50M in spend. The successful candidate will develop strategic category plans to optimize cost savings, achieve service excellence, diversity spend, and total cost of ownership results. This position will build valued relationships as sourcing leaders with the senior leadership. This position is also responsible to develop, source, and negotiate major contracts, achieve savings, and to play a key role in the Supplier Relationship Management / Scorecard process within the Sourcing Corporate Services portfolio.



  • 5 years’ of supply chain, procurement, sourcing and/or contract management

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required


  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree

  • 6-7 years’ work experience in the areas of procurement, sourcing and/ or contract management

  • Strong contract and scope of work knowledge and drafting experience for service contracts

  • Experience conducting RFPs and analysis of bids and cost models

  • Advanced in Microsoft Office

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills

  • Excellent analytical & critical thinking skills

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and projects from idea creation to execution

  • Ability to identify and resolve problems and implementation barriers

  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills

  • SAP/SRM proficiency

  • Relevant certifications in the Supply Chain area (CPSM, CPIM, others)


  • Leads the development of category strategies of low to medium complexity.

  • Manages top tier suppliers.

  • Leads cross-functional team through strategic sourcing process and development/execution of negotiation strategies for low to medium complexity spend categories.

  • Maintains awareness of industry and market trends through ongoing research.

  • Conducts and documents market research and supplier risk analysis to verify the financial health of existing and potential suppliers.

  • Creates and maintains category plans and scorecards.

  • Develops and sustains mutually beneficial strategic relationships with tier 1 and 2 suppliers.

  • Develops and review performance data with suppliers. Works with suppliers to drive ongoing value discovery.
