Department Overview

IT Corporate Services Technology organization provides IT support to PG&E’s Safety & Shared Services, Work Management, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Finance, Compliance, Regulatory Affairs and HR organizations. We are part of the Business Technology (IT BT) organization partnering with our business clients to deliver outstanding IT support to achieve PG&E’s business objectives. We maintain and manage technologies and delivery projects for the Shared Services, Finance, and HR organizations

Position Summary

This position of SAP EAM Business Architect is within the IT BT Corporate Services team and is an integral strategic partner and business liaison that develops and maintain business architecture of SAP EAM area across all the lines of business. Business Architect will partner with business leads, analysts, and technology and information architects to create standardized business process model, activity diagrams; provided functional expertise in development of long term application and information portfolios.

The SAP EAM Business Architect builds and maintains relationships with the Asset Management Line of Business and internal IT Teams responsible for EAM solution delivery at all levels for planning, project scope definition, technology solution, future roadmap and overall customer satisfaction.



  • B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent work experience in computer science, business administration or other relevant field

  • 10 years of experience in business analysis and process modeling functions with experience leading teams for at least 3 years

  • Extensive knowledge of SAP EAM functionality

  • Demonstrated experience of 8 or more years in leading and delivering SAP EAM technologies and solutions

  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a collaborative environment and interact with all levels of management within the Business and IT

  • Demonstrated ability and influence to effectively navigate complex organizational, process, technical and political challenges

  • Ability to foster a work environment in which individuals collaborate in pursuit of a common mission and mutual goals

  • Competency in taking board view when approaching issues using a global lens

  • Hands-on experience with business requirements gathering/analysis

  • Proven experience in structured systems analysis

  • Experience with business process modeling tools and processes

  • Experience providing direction to one or more Business Architects and/or Business Analysts


  • M.S. or M.B.A. degree in computer science

  • Experience in Utility Industry

  • Experience in SAP PS, PPM and Supply Chain modules

  • Experience in management of specialized, high impact, and complex projects, systems, and teams

  • Experience in managing cloud/SAAS solutions

  • Utility industry experience

  • Extensive knowledge of process improvement techniques

  • Experience leading Business Architecture function at a utility company or related industry


  • The candidate will be responsible for architecting, designing, developing and supporting business solutions leveraging the latest versions of SAP EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) and related products

  • Define solution design practices and standards that link back to SAP best practices. Maintain an awareness of SAP standard functionality, best practices, and SAP trends and directions

  • Recommend implementation strategies that are aligned with the company’s business strategy and are consistent with SAP’s enterprise architecture and future product road map

  • Develops proof of concepts to demonstrate proposed technical solutions

  • Experience in creating technology strategies, roadmaps, and reference architectures taking into consideration innovation and optimization

  • Translates business goals into appropriate solutions while assessing feasibility and optimization of the solution. Participates in the development of cost/benefit analysis

  • Develops models that define and depict the business strategy, governance, organization, and key business processes

  • Concept and business case development; Introduces change to existing business technology capabilities for the EAM area

  • Leads and provides guidance to the team on walkthroughs of processes and identification of gaps in controls

  • Defines and documents business requirements for complex system development or testing

  • Develops and maintains working relationships with a diverse group of business, functional and technical teams

Key Focus Item:

  • Re-architect SAP EAM landscape to enable mobile, analytics and scheduling/dispatch delivery teams

Team Support and Management

  • Understand issues within the team to delivering the technology solutions appropriate for the EAM technology space

  • Meet with clients and key stakeholders on a regular basis to ensure technology solution delivery is appropriate to business requirements / need and is delivered with high quality

  • Drive continuous process improvements


  • Provide budget estimates for Business Cases and Technology initiatives
