Exelon Technical Analyst IT – Telecommunications Engineer in Salisbury, Maryland
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Performs and/or manages activities relating to planning, designing, building, and maintaining high quality solutions, products and processes in the area of Telecommunications and IT infrastructure. Identify opportunities and recommend long range strategic direction and scope for wireless, fiber and/or networking infrastructure projects, and engineering plans/designs.
Develop technical specifications and interface as technical liaison with equipment manufacturers, value-added resellers, systems integrators, consultants and Engineers. Coordinate product evaluations and specify/recommend telecommunications equipment, networks, systems, and services. Provide operational engineering support to field operations.
Develop & submit project estimates, forecasts, and projections for communications infrastructure development, growth, and technology refresh. Has budget responsibility for a small project, sub-project or process component. Expected to work under minimal supervision.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provide leadership and technical guidance in the area of Telecommunications and IT infrastructure including but not limited to management of projects, developing/maintaining technical standards to support reliable, secure communications services to electrical substations, distribution line devices, and field resources.
Identify opportunities and recommend long range strategic direction and scope for wireless, fiber and/or networking infrastructure projects, and engineering plans/designs to meet all corporate and power delivery telecommunications requirements. Develop technical specifications and interface as technical liaison with equipment manufacturers, value-added resellers, systems integrators, and consultants (e.g., Architect/Engineers).
Coordinate product evaluations and specify/recommend telecommunications equipment, networks, systems, and services.
Provide engineering support and project management during the construction/implementation, coordinate acceptance testing, and service cut-in of new communication systems.
Maintain technical knowledge and business acumen within own discipline or function
Establish positive team environment by proactively assisting and training less experienced personnel & field technicians.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline and typically 5 to 8 years related experience in deploying fiber, wireless, network or SONET infrastructure/equipment to support electric substations or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Appropriate technical skills in reading electrical and substation prints, designing multiplexor and SONET networks.
Experience and knowledge regarding management of telecommunications projects such as fiber optics, wireless and IP networks.
Experience maintaining detailed records and documentation of equipment, hardware, software, and other system configuration items
Strong problem solving and analysis ability.
Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
Understanding of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols
Experience with IP networking in a substation or utility environment.
Experience and familiarity with GIS software, MS Project, and accounting software such as SAP and WMIS
