Spire is seeking a Director, Fleet to work in St. Louis, Missouri. This position will be responsible for the safety and performance of the overall Spire fleet. This individual will partner with the senior leadership team on strategic planning to carry out our mission and successfully deliver fleet projects of varying size and complexity.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide strategic direction for the safety and performance of all fleet operations across Spire
Oversee all fiscal responsibilities including budgeting and payroll along with directing budgets to ensure financial performance objectives are achieved and quality work.
Develop and implement strategy to ensure the corporate fleet is right sized, right typed and modernized including the advancement and administration of the Spire vehicle policy
Develop and implement appropriate strategy for all vehicle purchases, maintenance and repair, and fueling
Establish, cultivate and retain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
Implement and direct project work through utilization of fleet management systems with a focus on optimization and planning.
Streamline the reporting and analysis of fleet through core competencies and tools/methods to identify opportunities, create forecast models and measure metrics across targeted areas.
Administer the fuel (gasoline and diesel) corporate financial hedging program
Provide analysis, recommendation and direction to Treasury for corporate lease versus purchase program for all Spire vehicles
Develop and administer the plan for alternative fuel usage (CNG) for regulated distribution operations including CNG vehicle acquisitions and CNG fueling stations
Interface across cross-functional teams to establish and boost alignment and synergy, gaining buy-in from stakeholders and leading the implementation of initiatives.
Represent company with the state and federal DOT as needed for regulatory issues, annual audits, and accident investigations related to the Company’s fleet.
Represent company on internal and industry committees as appropriate, such as National Association of Fleet Administrators.
Motivate, mentor, develop, lead and manage fleet team members.
All other duties as assigned.
Essential Characteristics and Competencies

Required Education (certifications, licenses)
- Bachelor’s degree required (business, finance, accounting, engineering preferred)
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
10+ years of progressively responsible fleet experience including leading teams of supervisors, coordinators, technicians and mechanics.
Proven experience in leading large process improvement efforts coupled with the ability to effectively direct and lead teams through change.
Innovative and collaborative leadership style coupled with strong influential skills.
Knowledge of cost management.
Keen ability to think strategically to make critical business decisions.
Experience in project management and communications needed to drive large scale projects.
Ability to clearly communicate with and inspire through leading with passion.
Ability to effectively delegate and hold others accountable to achieving results.
High level of emotional intelligence with the ability to understand and navigate social situations.
Physical demands, environment and schedule
Work Environment – Work is normally performed in a shared office environment
Hours – generally office hours but subject to nights, weekends and holidays as required
Travel requirements- frequent travel to other operating areas and industry meetings
