Summary

Spire is seeking an Accountant that will be responsible for the preparation and completion of monthly journal entries, financial statements, quarterly reports, yearly reports, and special reports required by the Company and other outside governmental agencies. This position is also responsible for maintaining accurate financial records.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly journal entries, project adjustments, reconciliations, financial statements, reports, etc.

  • Analyze general ledger accounts.

  • Create capital projects and review those created by other departments.

  • Perform monthly closing responsibilities, including project & Fixed Asset processing of AFUDC and Depreciation, and all other Fixed Asset transactions.

  • Prepare various schedules and reports.

  • Create and maintain Excel spreadsheets.

  • Remain current on changes in accounting rules.

  • Collaborate with other members of the Financial Reporting team and other departments to meet deliverables and deadlines.

  • Work on projects, including preparing rate case work papers, annual budgets, ad hoc requests, etc.

  • Copy and distribute various statements and reports.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or similar degree.

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Experience working in large scale ERP systems such as Oracle & SAP.

Physical demands, environment and schedule

Work Environment: Work is normally performed in a shared office environment.

Working Hours: Typically, 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required to meet strict deadlines.

Travel: Occasional travel may be required.
