Organization Overview

The State Government Relations team is focused on ensuring proposed legislation and state policies promote the safe, affordable and reliable delivery of gas and electric service to our customers while being a leader in clean energy. This team is the primary face of PG&E in the state Capitol and works to maintain relationships with key stakeholders including the Governor, legislators and their staff.

A critical part of our work is advocating and communicating company positions, attending meetings, tracking issues and analyzing legislation. We serve both internal and external stakeholders by coordinating closely with experts within the company and those that also serve external stakeholders such as local governments, customers or state regulators.

Position Summary

State Government Relations is seeking a talented summer intern to help support our efforts by performing the following types of tasks:

  • Attend meetings with experienced advocacy team members and report out summary of actions

  • Track key pieces of legislation by interfacing with our tracking system called CapitalTrack

  • Draft position papers to convey company positions on legislation

  • Coordinate expert or officer education and outreach visits to Sacramento

  • Attend hearings and report in writing the summary

  • Lead special projects as needed

The successful intern will have the opportunity to support activities as described above working with a team of experienced government affairs professionals.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Political Science or related field with a strong desire to enter law or policy field. Students MUST be continuing education towards degree during and/or after internship.


  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA

  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written

  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction

  • Experience in government or political process such as other internships or campaign experience a plus

PG&E typically is unable to provide VISA sponsorship to students on an F-1, J-1 or other visa for this position.
