Become a Senior Manager, Demand Response Planning & Administration Operations in the Customer Demand and Generation (DR) team at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better more sustainable tomorrow.

In this role, you will lead a talented team of 5 direct reports, supporting the day-to-day business and operations encompassing the Demand Response portfolio including customer support, planning, forecasting, budget administration, reporting and regulatory functions. You will work with our programs teams to translate customer asks, clean energy policy and demand response strategy initiatives into a wholistic portfolio of pilots and programs that support customer interests, statewide clean power goals and grid reliability. You will work with internal and external stakeholders including policy development with executives, regulatory affairs advocates, power procurement, law, and customer service; as well as interface with external agencies including the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to advocate for the fair and reasonable treatment of SCE’s Demand and Customer Generation programs and participating customers. You will oversee the preparation of related regulatory filings and represent SCE in various regulatory forums and collaborate with other SCE teams such as Energy Procurement & Management (EP&M), Business Customer Division (BCD), Regulatory Affairs and Finance and others in support of the day-to-day administration of SCE’s DR programs and support of the DR portfolio.

You will also oversee the development and preparation of SCE’s next Demand Response Application to ensure testimony, forecasts and documentation result in a balanced set of programs, pilots and support functions that meet regulatory requirements in support of customer and grid needs.

  • Manage and oversee the activities of a team focusing on customer support, compliance reporting, cross-cutting DR capital incentive program management, regulatory filings and compliance, budget administration, cost effectiveness oversight, external engagement and representation, implementation and promotion of SCE’s DR strategy, and the responsibility to respond to emergency events 24/7/365.

  • Represent and advocate SCE’s demand response customer and program interests with outside entities and agencies. Works collaboratively with internal teams to communicate program and portfolio activities, interests, goals and drivers.

  • Ensure regulatory assignments and compliance deliverables are filed per compliance requirements and meet a high standard of quality and accuracy. Provides recommendations and oversees project plans related to regulatory activities managed within the Products Groups.

  • Oversee the Demand Response budget including daily budget administration activities and provides guidance and recommendations to other members in the DR team including program managers and leaders in support of meeting budget goals and compliance mandates including cost effectiveness requirements and calculations.

  • Provide consultative guidance and leadership to DR Program Operations Manager and team. Ensure team has tools and training available to manage daily customer support functions including inquiries, eligibility, enrollments, payments, un-enrollments, etc. and that appropriate coverage is available during emergency event dispatches (24/7/365).

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting activities including daily, weekly and monthly reports per applicable compliance requirements.

  • Ensure responsible administration of the Auto-DR capital incentive program including customer incentive payments per proper documentation (e.g. audit/inspection) while meeting program rules and requirements.

  • Ensure adequate customer and program support coverage during grid emergencies and working with fellow staff via emergency teams, leadership and others to provide support as needed.

  • Oversee the Automated Demand Response capital incentive program, and work with staff to ensure customers and providers understand program rules, meet eligibility and find participating programs that work for their home or business.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • 5 years of experience leading, managing or supervising direct reports or matrixed teams.

  • Experience in demand response, grid operations, CAISO energy markets, reliability planning, regulatory, and/or customer-side demand program management.

  • 3 years experience drafting reports & recommendations, making presentations to management and/or regulators, or drafting applications and testimony.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • 3 years experience with budget administration and/or analysis.

  • Experience with program oversight and audit best practices.

  • Understanding of the regulatory framework in a regulated utility.

  • Knowledge and experience of Demand Response fundamentals.

  • Utilities Commission (CPUC) rules and process.

  • Experience in energy commodities markets and state resource adequacy or procurement issues; preferably California Independent System Operator (CAISO) market process and rules.

  • Experience in the operation of electrical systems.

  • Experience performing complex analyses such as DR baselines and cost-effectiveness.

  • Experience in regulatory and/or legislative processes, including regulated utilities; preferably California Public Utilities Commission
