Senior Legislative Affairs Advisor

Become a Senior Legislative Affairs Advisor at Edison International (EIX) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will be the primary lead on the company’s state and federal legislative bill review process. You will spearhead the analysis of high volumes of legislation, working with subject-matter experts, coordinating with the Sacramento and Washington, DC offices, drafting legislative position letters, responding to information requests, and preparing policy analyses so that the company’s positions are communicated accurately to legislators, their staff, and other key external stakeholders. You will serve as the policy lead enterprise-wide with Edison International and its affiliates as well as effectively manage research and issue management projects for senior company officers. You will report to the Principal Manager, Legislative Affairs in Corporate Public Affairs.

A day in the life-Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright

  • Lead the state and federal legislative review process, including developing policy analyses, persuasive position letters, comments, arguments, and data submitted to legislators and staff.

  • Manage key aspects of the state and federal policy development process to identify objectives and positions that are aligned with the company’s vision and clean energy business strategy.

  • Own complex policy analysis and research projects to determine structural barriers, issues, challenges, and opportunities.

  • Manager the compilation, reporting, and hand-off of critical compliance-related legislation to ensure company-wide compliance with new state laws.

  • Collaborate with legislative advocates in the Sacramento and Washington, DC offices on policy advocacy approaches that advance the company’s external engagement strategy and result in favorable legislative outcomes.

  • Serve as the enterprise-wide policy lead with Edison International, Southern California Edison and affiliates on policy positions and to ensure adherence with affiliate compliance rules.

  • Lead special research and issue management projects for senior officers requiring complex, high-quality deliverables developed collaboratively with subject-matter experts.

  • Serve on incident management teams during emergency activations, including after hours, nights and weekend duty rotation.

  • Demonstrate Company values through decision and actions.

  • Consistently advance the Company’s safety culture to ensure a safe work environment.

Qualifications

The Essentials

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Business, Economics, Environmental Policy, or related field.

  • Ten or more years of combined experience in public policy, project management, cross-functional coordination, strategic planning, the legislative process, energy, and/or environmental policy.

  • Experience in analyzing legislation, public policy development, strategic analysis, legislative bill management/tracking, and/or project management.

The preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Business, Economics, Environmental Policy, or related field, or a Law Degree.

  • Expertise in the legislative process at the state and/or federal levels, and a proven track record managing a high-volume portfolio of bills.

  • Experience working on a legislative staff for a state legislator or member of Congress.

  • Understanding of the investor-owned utility business model and clean energy policy in California.

  • Familiarity with state and federal legislative tracking platforms including CapitolTrack.

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft office tools as well as Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.

  • Experience researching and writing detailed policy analyses and position papers/letters.

  • Ability to work in high volume, high pressure situations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to interact and collaborate with internal business partners.

  • Exceptional planner and organizer.

  • Must be willing to travel approximately 10% of the time.
