We are leading the clean power and electrification future for California and are looking to hire people with the passion and know-how in external stakeholder engagement to make that happen. The Senior Advisor – Policy Campaigns will manage the development, execution and assessment of external engagement campaigns for company initiatives in clean power (renewables, energy storage, etc.) and transportation and building electrification. Reporting to the Principal Manager of External Engagement, you will provide matrixed leadership and guidance to cross-functional project teams including representatives from many departments throughout the company. You will use your informal leadership and management skills to coach these teams, using your experience in stakeholder engagement, thought leadership and education/mobilization campaigns.
The Senior Advisor will lead the development of strategic engagement plans and oversee, as well as participate, in the execution of the plans. These will include both regulatory and legislative campaigns, as well as local initiatives, with a wide variety of stakeholders and audiences. You will evaluate and recommend courses of action, seek information and escalate any identified business risks. The position is part of a small but mighty team, so you will be expected to roll up your sleeves for stakeholder tracking, event support and message/content development. Additionally, you will represent the company with external stakeholders to support and defend the clean power and electrification goals of SCE to help California reach its greenhouse gas reduction and air quality goals.
Coaches cross-functional teams that include government affairs, technical experts, regulatory affairs, corporate communications, local public affairs, customer relations to plan and help them execute stakeholder engagement in support of clean power and electrification policy objectives.
Develops and maintains expertise on key issues affecting the company the areas of increasing renewable energy, transportation and building electrification, rates and energy pricing and grid modernization.
Identifies, engages and monitors the needs of external stakeholders involved policy issues including policy makers, community leaders, activists and advocacy groups, academics, business, customers and labor.
Develops stakeholder engagement and overall project plans; manages program and project timelines via scope, scale and budget, tracks deliverables and mitigates risk accordingly; coordinates resourcing between multiple plans to ensure all deadlines are met; makes presentations to executives on progress and outcomes.
Provides matrixed leadership to project team and reviews work products; manages, motivates and mentors the team and looks for opportunities to continuously improve capabilities with external engagement best practices and tools; plans and forecasts resource needs based on workload capacity.
Oversees the development of engagement activities and communication materials and content (e.g. fact sheets, talking points, presentations, FAQs), and coordinates external engagement opportunities including event sponsorships, executive speaking opportunities, social and digital campaigns, research and thought leadership pieces.
Performs after-action reviews and post-activity evaluations and assessments to identify successful and unsuccessful approaches, strategies and tactics and sharing those insights with the team as part of ongoing continuous improvement efforts.
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy, Public Relations, Business or related field.
Seven years of experience in public relations, media relations, corporate communications, campaign development and management and/or governmental or regulatory affairs.
Ten years of experience working in a regulated or policy-related environment or policy-related organization.
Seven or more years of experience in public affairs/public relations some of which include managing advocacy and education plans targeting a wide variety of stakeholders.
Five years of engagement plan development, writing and reporting.
Five years of clean power and electrification stakeholder engagement by tailoring and delivering advocacy and tracking results.
Five years of working on clean power and electrification issue campaign teams, with a strong record of collaboration and effective information sharing.
Digital and social media monitoring and engagement experience.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
Critical thinker with the ability to thrive in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and stakeholder databases.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
The primary work location for this position is Rosemead, CA with occasional visits to local SCE offices.
Position will require occasional travel within California for conferences and stakeholder meetings.
