In this job, you’ll play a key role in managing long-term energy forecast activities. This includes developing economic analysis, building and operating forecast models and analysis tools, to project energy growth outlooks up to 2050 for bulk energy system planning and procurement, distribution planning, strategic and other planning activities.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Develops statistical analyses of macroeconomic and demographic drivers used for long-term load forecast (up to 30-year-out) for bulk power system planning and distribution planning purposes; researches and provides regular economic updates to management; evaluates vendor forecasts and establishes inputs for forecasting annual sales, customers, and new meter sets; assesses potential sources for establishing regional economic and demographic forecast inputs.

  • Develops and updates a suite of time-series econometric models for forecasting purposes; provides training to new analysts on how to maintain the models; communicates forecast changes effectively with other organizations across the company.

  • Manages various load forecast filings on regular basis; provides additional uncertainty or risk assessment; acts as SCE forecast lead to coordinate communication efforts internally and externally on departing load forecast and reporting; provides oversight to forecast filings work.

  • Manages the production of Demand Forms for IEPR filings; plays advocacy role through California Energy Commission’s annual IEPR demand forecast process to support long-term planning purposes.

  • Serves as the direct witness for company’s annual ERRA forecast filings and the lead witness support for SCE’s Generate Rate Case filings; prepares substantial testimony, workpapers, and data requests responses; provides subject matter expert support to other regulatory proceedings when needed.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Ten years of work experience in the field of analysis including economic analysis, statistical modeling, or forecasting

The preferred

  • Graduate Degree in Economics, Statistics, Business, or Technical Discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Strong macroeconomics background

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in statistical modeling and/or economic analysis using analytical tools such as EVIEWS or SAS

  • Experience working with regulatory agencies

  • Knowledge of electric system and power markets

  • Strong leadership and project management skills

  • Work Mode: When a return-to-office date has been determined, this position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
