Become a Principal Manager in the Generation organization at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be responsible for leading a group of Project Managers executing a $100 million to $200 million portfolio comprised of small to large projects. The Principal Manager leads, manages and mentors a team of managers, project managers and project engineers.

  • Fosters a safety-first culture by incorporating safety practices in all aspects of project planning, project execution, and contractor management and oversight activities.

  • Executes a portfolio of the multi-year infrastructure projects for the Company with the potential to impact the Company’s long-term strategies, reputation and credibility with regulators, the public, shareholders and the investment community. Total portfolio varies between $100-200 million.

  • Provides leadership, sets expectations, and supervises work performed by leading activities according to established policies and procedures. Establishes performance metrics and provide regular updates to executives on project progress, including corrective actions as appropriate.

  • Acquires environmental, regulatory and government agency approvals to enable project execution. Ensures regulatory and corporate project compliance to minimize financial, legal and public impacts to the Company. Negotiates with contractors, service providers, and regulatory agencies related to projects on behalf of the Company. Devises strategies and tactics to manage and mitigate corporate risk.

  • Directs the development of, review and approve external relations strategies related to projects, including meetings with local, senior state or federal politicians, regulators and officials as needed.

  • Accountable for cost, scheduling, budget, engineering, contract, material, permitting, construction, customer, client, risk analysis, and paper closure of all designs under Major Project & Engineering team responsibilities.

  • Establishes performance expectations and goals aligned with Company strategy and objectives.

  • Maintains strong partnerships with operating groups to facilitate timely resolution of issues, adequate resource allocation, and prioritization of project scope.

  • Provides leadership to Generation and supplemental resources for the implementation of plans and project. Coaches and mentors a team of managers and technical specialists in supervising and controlling project tasks and activities.

  • Will be an active member of the Generation Incident Management Team.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • 10 years of professional experience in utility or power, design and construction projects.

  • 7 years’ experience managing/supervising a technical organization and/or construction project management experience.

The preferred

  • BS, MS or MBA in engineering, construction or related technical discipline.

  • PMP or other Project Management Certification.

  • Professional Engineer Certification

  • 5 years of environmental permitting, mitigation and monitoring experience

  • Solid understanding and experience with project controls software including Primavera scheduling software.

  • Broad base of technical skills in relation to management or supervision of large-scale utility infrastructure projects including understanding of electrical, civil, structural, apparatus, protection, etc.

  • Ability to build a positive relationship with the contractor and internal and external project stakeholders.

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
