Become the new Principal Manager of Contractor Management at Southern California Edison (SCE) and help build a better tomorrow in California as we power the clean energy transition. In this brand-new leadership role, you will create and lead SCE’s newly authorized Contractor Management Office (CMO) that will serve as a center of excellence for driving and sustaining high performance of the thousands of contractor companies that SCE hires each year. Those firms perform critical work, in nearly every imaginable discipline, to the tune of billions of dollars of spend each year—all in support of SCE’s most strategic objectives. This unique position requires a strong ability to design and execute strategies, programs, and initiatives that have enterprise-wide scope, while leading a nimble team of professionals to solve some of the most complex problems facing SCE’s contractors. Your work will drive improvements across multiple Organizational Units (OUs), and you will partner and engage with SCE leaders company wide. The CMO will challenge the status quo and create concrete plans to achieve improved outcomes in Safety, Quality, Compliance, Cost, Schedule Adherence, and other dimensions of contractor performance. The CMO will oversee SCE’s post-award contractor management in all of the following areas: driving priority contractor improvement initiatives, generating insights and being accountable for contractor performance reporting, creating a Strategic Supplier Relationship Management Program, and continuously building organizational capabilities.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Manage a team of direct and indirect reports to identify and implement opportunities across the contractor lifecycle. Lead contractor management governance to drive initiative impact. Partner with SCE leaders to prioritize and plan further initiatives. Build transparency and accountability for contractor performance outcomes both internally and externally. Formulate data-backed insights to drive root cause identification and issue resolution.

  • Drive contract strategies in collaboration with SCE leaders to shape vision and priorities. Provide guidance and support in the formulation of contract strategies and negotiations. Support Procurement and hiring OUs in identifying and developing key strategic supplier partnerships.

  • Create SCE-wide center of excellence for Contractor Management. Codify best practices for contract management. Integrate key learnings into future contracts. Standardize and improve policies, procedures, systems, and tools. Develop capabilities and skills to effectively manage across the contractor lifecycle.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Seven or more years of leadership experience managing or supervising an organization or business unit.

  • Experience working in and across multiple organizational and business units, maintaining relationships and ability to drive impact.

  • Experience developing business plans, operational plans, or strategic plans.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Operations Management, Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Thorough understanding of the entire Contractor Lifecycle (from outsourcing strategy and risk management, through day-to-day operations). Experience negotiating and managing contracts.

  • Strategic Sourcing and Procurement experience

  • Experience in managing contractors accounting for $500M+ in spend, preferably of electrical Transmission or Distribution business lines

  • Strong bias to action – not afraid to challenge the status quo

  • Strong influencing skills with leadership, peers, and the frontline

  • Strong decision-making abilities, especially cross-functionally, and with multiple business units

  • Strategic thinking skills and ability to communicate vision, while also developing and implementing actionable plans

  • Recognition and understanding of contractor challenges and motivation to drive change.

You should know …

Hybrid: When a return-to-office date has been determined, this position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
