In this job, you’ll be leading a team responsible for application of technical skills and expertise in Fixed Asset Accounting to perform and analyze capital related accounting transactions and analysis including managing capital work orders to ensure proper and timely capital cost recovery. You will act as a SME for capital related GRC requests and lead the effort of successful implementation of the GRC decisions. You will also provide guidance and recommendation for process improvements to drive efficiencies in the organization and present conclusions to senior management . Lead and manage a team of accountants including selection, hiring, goal setting, performance management and staff development
Serve as a Fixed Asset Accounting expert providing capital accounting related guidance to various operating units; possess a deep understanding of both FERC and GAPP accounting and interpret and apply these principles to resolve and document appropriate accounting conclusions
Oversee the entire Allowance for Funds Used During Construction (AFUDC) calculation process to ensure proper accrual of AFUDC and partner with various operating units to minimize the impact of AFUDC throwback
Lead a team to complete monthly Plant Accounting close activities including performing quarterly and annual compliance reporting and support data request for various regulatory agencies
Work closely with other teams within Capital Asset Accounting to share timely information and achieve the efficiencies across the organization
Coordinate and lead the implementation of CPUC General Rate Case decision
Qualifications
The essentials
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field of study
Experience with interpreting and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Five (5) or more years of experience in accounting or related field
Three (3) or more years of experience supervising or leading a department, work unit, or team
Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate accounting issues and business processes
Experience and proficiency with SAP or similar enterprise software
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Strong interpersonal and cross-organizational communication skills, including the ability to work with all levels within/outside of the company and to work across functions and departments in analyzing information and developing solutions
Ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent tasks in periods of tight deadlines and to engage in continuous improvement/learning, effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation
The preferred
Master’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or related field of study
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
Three or more years of experience in Fixed Asset Accounting
Proficiency in PowerPlan software or similar Fixed Asset Accounting software
Knowledge of utilities or regulated companies
