Position Overview

The IT Architecture (Systems Design), Senior Advisorposition resides in the Enterprise Architecture Planning and Strategy department within Southern California Edison (SCE)’s Information Technology organization. Part of the focus of this role, will be to serve as a support for our Transmission & Distribution Field Service Applications. The successful candidate will be accountable for driving technology solutions across the Enterprise technology portfolio to help lower cost of ownership and enable the digital utility. This specific role will have a primary focus in Field Service core system capabilities such as asset management, graphical design tools, planning applications, work management and will include other essential Field Services capabilities with the ultimate goal to increase SCE operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the analysis, design and integration of information technology as it pertains to Smart Grid and supporting work processes of the Transmission & Distribution infrastructure.

  • Leads the business capability portfolio maturity assessment and translates new business needs into solution architecture requirements, defines multiple solution options to new and maturing business capabilities and understands the financial impact of solution architecture alternatives.

  • Ensures that related Enterprise Architecture (EA) areas are integrated appropriately with major programs from a domain and enterprise architecture perspective. Defines integration standards and governs project adherence to standards.

  • Responsible for the development of solution architecture deliverables, approaches, and guidance of overall EA solution patterns. Guides EA reviews, gains acceptance of solutions and informs key stakeholders of review outcomes.

  • Provides embedded EA leadership and governance and directs/monitors the work of project resources on strategic programs & projects as well as monitors and guides project resources when/if multiple projects are within a program.

  • Understands and articulates the proper integration across the enterprise and influences key business stakeholders, process owners, and program & project managers to ensure that program/project objectives are met while providing a first line of decision making on architectural governance issues.

  • Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.

  • Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions.

  • Confirms product performance by designing and conducting tests.

  • Coordinates with Enterprise Technology Architects to understand the appropriate technology domain strategy and to ensure that the solution under consideration supports the direction for the technology domain as well as identifies, addresses, communicates and documents any deviations from EA standards.

  • Understands Transmission & Distribution and enabling technology/ IT to develop the overall solution, leveraging Business, Application, Information, Technology, and Security Architects from the Domains.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related technical major/ discipline.

  • Twelve (12) or more years of combined experience within Information Technology, Operations, Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, and/or technical related field.

  • Experience in evolving IT services & operating models to enable the efficient and cost effective achievement of client and internal business outcomes in support of the SCE strategy & goals. This includes introducing multi-speed (Bimodal) service delivery, defining self-service systems & services within our operating units, advancing innovation, and maturing our focus on data as a core asset

  • Knowledge and experience in IT architecture and/or software and systems design/engineering disciplines & practices including industry standard approaches and frameworks. Knowledge of TOGAF or other Enterprise Architecture Standards or Frameworks

  • Knowledge of data exchange principles, including any upstream needs and downstream impacts

  • Knowledge of standard System Development Lifecycle models & methodologies and coding standards.

  • Experience developing scopes of work, developing and documenting requirements, conceptual designs and project execution strategies within the architecture domains - business, data, applications, and technology.

  • Experience in implementation/build of business applications in integrated ERP/EAM background, preferably SAP (e.g., ECC 6. EhP8, Suite on HANA, or HANA/S4)

  • Experience working with senior management, executives, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities.

  • Ability to create high-quality presentations, proposals, statements of work, and assessment deliverables, including the ability to translate technical language into clear business language.

  • Ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related technical major/ discipline.

  • IT solution architecture experience.

  • Knowledge of and experience in the utility industry business processes and operations, with emphasis in Transmission & Distribution operations, business processes, and systems, including Financial Systems, Contract Management, Planning, Work Management, Asset Management, and Digital Channels.

  • Experience working with large Transmission & Distribution systems in a very complex environment.

  • Experience with field work and a mobile workforce, preferably with GIS applications, with a substantial work being done by 3rd party contractors

  • Knowledge of Complete Asset Lifecycle models (e.g., ISO55000 or PAS55, including Risk Informed Dynamic Maintenance (work) planning)

  • Client/customer facing experience in a presales engineering or technical consulting role.

  • Demonstrated leadership in overcoming the challenges and difficulties associated with changing business processes, when faced with dated dogma, and leading a transformation to a modern grid and modern digital utility.
