In this job, you’ll will serve as the lead technical subject matter expert in the administration of Edison’s Health & Welfare benefit plans. The Sr. Specialist interfaces with Edison internal departments (HR, Legal, IT, Payroll and Disability Management), the outsourced benefits administration vendor, employees, retirees, and plan/program vendors to effectively administer our health & welfare plans.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Serve as the subject matter expert and lead for:

  • Translation and interpretation of Plan Document eligibility provisions into business requirements documents and day-to-day administration for our outsourced vendor.

  • Technical aspects of the plan including loading of the interface files from our outsourced vendor to SAP; resolving unique situations that are identified on bi-weekly payroll validation and error reports, and other payroll/system issues.

  • Monitor performance of outsourced benefits administration vendor through reoccurring weekly calls, quarterly vendor scorecards, process reviews, service level agreements, transaction audits and call calibrations.

  • Response and resolution for complex and elevated participant service-related issues including formal ERISA claims and preparation of appeal case documentation for the Benefits Committee.

  • Implementation of plan design and/or administrative process changes with our outsourced vendor including serving as the group SME for annual enrollment

  • Responsible for management of several vendor relationships including establishing regular, recurring meetings with vendor; holding the vendor accountable for deliverables; budget setting and review of vendor contracts.

  • Responsible for annual compliance activities including required government reporting and managing of annual and off-cycle HIPAA certification and training.

  • Responsible for managing the day-to-day and plan administration of the Preventive Health Account (excludes system/technical aspects of the account).

  • Responsible for completing surveys, eligibility/PHA reporting, and other ad-hoc data requests.


The essentials

  • Five or more years of experience with the administration of corporate health & welfare plans.

  • Five or more years of experience working with research and resolution of confidential human resources issues.

  • Knowledge and/or experience with laws and regulations (such as ERISA, COBRA and HIPAA) associated with the day to day administration of eligibility for health & welfare plans.

The preferred

  • Experience with SAP to research demographic and payroll data.

  • Advanced Proficiency in Excel with the ability to do v-look-up and pivot tables.

  • Three or more years of experience managing and working with 3rd party, external health & welfare record-keeping vendors.

  • Three or more years of experience using different reporting tools, i.e. SAP/Bex, Cognos, SAS, etc.

  • Five or more years of data and financial analytic experience.

  • Call center or equivalent customer service experience

  • CEBS, SPHR, PHR designations.

  • Certification in project management and/or six sigma training

  • Three or more years of experience in an analytical role in Human Resources in a large corporation.

  • Experience achieving short- and long-term objectives through self and others by prioritizing activities, monitoring the progress of projects, and ensuring accountability for timely results within budget parameters.

  • Knowledgeable about current developments in health & welfare benefits with the ability to suggest new ideas when applicable

  • Good oral and written communication skills to understand and appropriately respond to customer’s needs and/or appeals timely, establish trust and credibility with client organizations and facilitate the presentation of recommendations

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
