Become a Forecasting and Analytics Senior Specialist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be responsible for providing quantitative analysis that will drive our decisions in our Trading and Market Operations. You will help optimize energy storage resources, determine the impact of cloud cover on solar generation, and create forecasts of customer load and market prices. You will develop models and analysis that will shape our market strategy on our portfolio of resources in the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) market. You will get to work with large data sets to provide us a better understanding of our customer load and improve our modeling capabilities.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Produce short-term and prompt year forecasts of load and price

  • Perform analysis of SCE’s supply and demand resources and models

  • Solar forecast accuracy and impacts on grid charging of energy storage

  • Demand Bidding and forecast accuracy

  • Energy Storage optimization

  • Collaborate with the Trading, Day-ahead & Real-Time Operations, Resource Optimization, and other groups to support analysis procurement activities and CAISO market issues

  • Support and lead analysis to determine risk of CAISO system emergency

  • Perform analysis and help integrate market pilot projects in support of company goals such as

  • Energy storage for distribution deferral and market participation

  • Vehicle to Grid market participation pilot

  • Long duration storage

Qualifications

The essentials

  • 3 or more years of experience in energy, engineering, economics, finance, or other quantitative industry

  • 2 or more years of quantitative analysis or predictive modeling experience using statistical software such as SAS, Python tools, R, Azure, or others.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field

  • Experience in quantitative analytics related to power procurement, power systems operations, and/or wholesale power market operations, particularly in California.

  • Experience forecasting, planning, and analyzing market trends

  • Experience gathering and compiling data from different sources and formats (MS Excel, Oracle, SQL, XML, Snowflake etc.)

  • Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and negotiating skills to build consensus with senior staff and stakeholders to develop and maintain partnerships with support organizations and senior management

  • Experience preparing findings and presenting complex technical information to technical and non-technical audiences

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid .  The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

  • The primary work location for this position is Rosemead.

  • Position will require up to 5% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.

  • This position supports 7 day operations and may require being on-call on weekends.

  • Relocation may apply to this position.
