Finance provides you the information to understand our financial results, company goals, and the services we provide. The five Finance operating departments ensure that SCE meets or exceeds safety, affordability, and compliance standards. Controllers is the largest division of the Finance department and we pay the bills, close the books, provide earnings, deliver analysis of critical transactions, and explain accounting concepts company-wide.
The Financial Reporting Advisor is a key contributor to the external reporting of the Company, including Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) quarterly and annual filings, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) filings, Energy Information Administration reporting, benefit plans filings, trust filings, etc. You will be a member of the Accounting, Advisory & Controls group within the Controller’s organization. This team works cross functionally to understand and analyze earnings, tackle complex accounting problems, identifies disclosure implications of regulatory filings and other critical events, and serves an outward facing role to other organizations as we build the company’s reporting for investors on a quarterly basis.
Typical responsibilities include:
Prepare quarterly and annual reports filed with the SEC, including analyzing supporting disclosure data and ensuring disclosures are in compliance with GAAP requirements.
Assist in the analysis of financial information to support the earnings description in quarterly filings with the SEC and monthly management reporting packages.
Plan and prepare other external financial reports, including FERC filings and benefit plan filings.
Perform research on accounting issues, document findings and present conclusions to senior management.
Design and implement new disclosures.
Identify potential improvements, implement changes and consult with senior management on business issues identified as part of improvements.
Perform other responsibilities and duties, as assigned.
Seven (7) or more years' experience in the fields of accounting, financial analysis, or financial reporting.
Experience with interpreting and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements.
Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or related field
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant
Three (3) or more years' experience in the audit practice with a public accounting firm
Experience with accounting for Employee Benefits
Experience leading cross-functional projects
Knowledge of regulated companies
Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate accounting issues and business processes.
Ability to work in a team setting and work across functions and departments.
Strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, ability to handle stress and engage in continuous learning.
Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Primary work location: Rosemead, California.
