A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Lead highly complex and sensitive audits and/or specialized projects having a major significance or risk to the Company in the areas of Environment Health & Safety processes, utility operations, regulatory compliance, and security.

  • Analyze evidence to draw conclusions based on relevant data and personal knowledge and experience. Conclusions should identify the cause of the finding and not simply point out the symptoms. Effectively communicate (verbal and written) findings to management, including senior management and executives as needed.

  • Maintain contact with personnel responsible for addressing findings and ensuring risks are mitigated or controlled in a timely manner.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Sciences, Industrial Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Business, or Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial) or related field.

  • Certified Industrial Health (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation in active status or be able to obtain such certification within three (3) years of being hired.

  • Ten (10) or more years of operational auditing experience in the areas of environmental, health and safety, regulatory compliance, physical security or utility, or process related operations.

The preferred

  • Master's degree in Business, Industrial Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Engineering

  • Possess at least one of the following in Active status: Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM), Certified Professional Environmental Health & Safety Auditor (CPEA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Professional Engineer (PE), in active status or be able to obtain one of these certifications within three (3) years of being hired.

  • Broad operational knowledge of Electric Utility Organizational Units such as Transmission & Distribution, Power Production, Customer Service, Operations Support including Safety, Environmental and Security, and Regulatory Policy such as CPUC Rules, General Orders, and Rate functions

  • Basic experience with data analytics approaches including:

  • Identification and development data flows from large Enterprise Resource Planning environments for audit testing

  • Analysis of complex sets of data using Microsoft Excel, Access, or other analytical tools

  • Analysis of data using analytics software (ACL, Tableau, SQL, etc.)

  • Ability to manage concurrent projects, including assessing risks, developing work plans, prioritizing, and scheduling work activities to support timely completion.

  • Ability to work effectively and be flexible in a variety of situations, including those involving uncertainty, lack of information, and changing circumstances

  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills to effectively communicate and interact with personnel at all levels, including executive management, throughout the organization.

  • Experience using strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Effective January 2022, this position’s work mode is Hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
