Become an Enterprise Risk & Audit Data Scientist, Senior Advisor at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll work with the manager of Enterprise Risk & Audit Analytics to provide the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Audit Services (ASD) and other departments with Data Analytics, Modeling and Technology services that focus on supporting the performance of risk, controls, and internal audit projects. This includes developing cross-functional analytics use cases across a variety of domains that solve priority problems, provide advanced analytics support, and develop appropriate tools, as well as help enable these capabilities for ERM, ASD and clients/auditees. A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Work with, and act as a strategic advisor to, senior ERM, ASD and client/auditee stakeholders to understand business problems, goals, and objectives, translate them into data science projects and prioritize appropriately. Collaborate with data scientists and analytic teams across the company on big data analytics techniques and tools to improve analytics capabilities at SCE. Prepare reports and presentations, and communicate with executives.

  • Make strategic recommendations on data collection, preparation, integration, quality, exploration, and retention. Facilitate selection and preparation of data to be used for specific use cases. Develop and recommend data sampling strategies and techniques. Develop data cleaning specifications and approaches. Develop and/or implement tools for data acquisition, extraction, transformation, management, and manipulation of large and complex data sets.

  • Design, develop, and evaluate highly innovative models for predictive learning. Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation, and model implementation to support business processes and decision-making. Use machine learning, data mining, and statistical techniques to create new, scalable solutions for business problems. Perform variable selection and other standard modeling tasks. Produce model performance metrics. Prepare deliverable reports for business teams. Develop complex visualizations of results.

  • Lead data scientists on developing models that meet or exceed business requirements. Mentor and train other data scientists in advanced analytics methods & techniques, and lead technical teams for developing solutions for advanced analytics use cases.

  • Provide thought leadership, perspectives, and research around methods, models, techniques, and algorithms to improve risk-based decision-making. Identify opportunities to leverage data science and predictive analytics to help solve highly complex business challenges.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Seven (7) or more years of data science experience, including functional experience such as data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning, statistical modeling, large scale data acquisition, transformation, and cleaning, both structured and unstructured data or equivalent experience and background

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Business, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar technical discipline

  • Expert in some combination of SQL, R, Python, Java, SAS; expertise in extracting and transforming large datasets

  • Experience in predictive modeling, analysis, and algorithm development, and machine learning methods

The preferred

  • MS or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or information sciences such as business analytics or informatics

  • Certification in Data Science and/or Predictive Analytics

  • In-depth industry/business knowledge in Electric Utility domain

  • Experience in leading and mentoring junior team members, and guiding them on data science and advanced analytics (machine learning, predictive analytics) development

  • Experience with dashboards, business intelligence tools, and visualization solutions

  • Ability to come up with solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets

  • Track record of leading and collaborating on advanced analytics strategic initiatives

  • Ability to collaborate with people at all levels and with multi-office/region teams

  • Ability to lead small SME teams

  • Strong leadership skills and experience

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong problem-solving ability

  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to work independently

  • Experience preparing findings and presenting complex technical information to technical and non-technical audiences
