About Audit Services

The Audit Services Department assists management and the Audit Committee of the Edison International Board of Directors by providing independent and objective assurance services pertaining to internal controls, safeguarding of assets and governance, and advisory services requested by management to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Company's operations.

Position Overview

This position will be in the Operations and Consulting division of the Audits Services Department within Southern California Edison (SCE). The successful candidate will apply their engineering expertise and practices to review technical and detailed engineering concepts in the course of conducting audit assignments and projects. In this position, the individual will primarily lead team members, in the areas of operations, on highly complex, sensitive and/or specialized projects or audits having a major significance/risk to the Company by following audit protocols and established work programs.

The successful candidate will work independently or lead, direct and/or participate as a team member on technically complex, sensitive audits that require reviewing studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments associated with the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of SCE generation, transmission, distribution, and telecommunication facilities/systems.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical assessments related to audit projects and assess risks, develop work plans, prioritize, and schedule work activities to support concurrent projects; integrate job activities and establish a course of action for self and/or others to accomplish goals.

  • Use computers and computer capabilities to develop various audit work products, perform analysis, and document findings and observations.

  • Planning individual internal audit reviews by appropriately documenting the scope, objectives and other information as necessary.

  • Review technical procedures and investigate possible improvement areas.

  • Guide, develop and train staff auditors to ensure that their testing satisfies overall audit objectives.

  • Communicate results to management and track audit findings.

  • Routinely, conduct specialized or ad-hoc projects in various operational areas to address management inquiries or concerns.

  • Conduct physical observation and inspections of work sites.

  • Perform Root Cause Analysis and implementation of corrective actions including verification activities.

  • Document and evaluate complex and diverse technical processes across the Company as required.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Decision Making

  • This position provides input to audit team leads and management that could have a significant impact decisions involving of the effectiveness and efficiency of operations including compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.

  • This position provides input to the audit team and management for briefing senior management regarding the system of internal controls, reliability of operating information, and compliance with CPUC requirements, including laws, regulations and the corporate standards of conduct

  • This function is moderately complex as it will require the auditor to have general knowledge of the Operational Unit functions as well as a broad knowledge of company and department policies, objectives, strategies, and goals; regulatory requirements, affiliate relationships, and applicable governmental laws.

  • This position also requires knowledge of the audit function and audit techniques; computer assisted audit techniques, statistical sampling, audit protocols, generally accepted auditing standards, business risk assessment principles, control self-assessment techniques, audit report writing and documentation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial).

  • Six (6) or more years of experience performing engineering analysis or audits in an operational environment.

  • Six (6) years of experience with regulations, standards, codes, methods, practices and advanced engineering principles necessary to perform complex or unique process assessments.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) in active status.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or MBA is preferred.

  • Certificate and/or Licenses - (Must be in Active status): Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA); Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH); Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

  • Typically possesses eight or more years of technical engineering experience.

  • Experience working within an electric utility environment, such as process facility operations, maintenance and inspection, transmission, distribution, or power generation.

  • Two (2) or more years of project management experience in directing and working with cross-functional teams.

  • Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and standards applicable to the electric utility industry.

  • Knowledge of organization structures, risk management and internal controls across the technical areas.

  • Excellent report writing, analytical skills and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work alone and to plan and execute audit projects with minimum supervision and to complete work within required deadlines.

  • Ability to think "outside the box" and apply creative and constructive thinking to propose recommendations for improvements to internal controls, processes, procedures and policies.

  • Initiative, autonomy, adaptability, maturity, and sound judgment.

  • Excellent communication skills including oral, listening and writing skills with ability to interact affectively with all levels of management.

  • Knowledge in data analysis and data mining techniques.

  • Excellent knowledge in MS Office suite products, such as, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

  • Building and maintaining strong, collaborative working relationships with organizational unit leaders.

  • Ability to effectively implement plans to accomplish shared goals; strong written and oral communication skills as well as presentation skills to effectively communicate and interact with personnel at all levels throughout the organization.

  • Ability to work on concurrent assignments, often with conflicting priorities, and in situations involving uncertainty or lack of information and requires flexibility to respond to changing situations.

  • Broad operational knowledge of electric utility organizational units, such as; Transmission & Distribution, Power Production, Customer Service, Operations Support including Safety, Environmental and Security, and regulatory policy such as Commission Rules, General Orders, and Rate functions.

  • This position may require up to 15% local travel.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation.
