This position is in the Energy Procurement and Management organization which is contributing to SCE’s goal to be recognized by our industry as a high performance organization. The Senior Advisor of Energy Trading will work in the Energy Procurement and Management organization to help manage SCE’s $4 billion/year power resource portfolio. The Senior Advisor of Energy Trading will have responsibility of working collaboratively with other Energy Traders developing, managing and implementing SCE’s complex physical and financial gas portfolio while satisfying internal and external compliance policies and regulatory obligations. Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to develop a deep understanding of the energy portfolio and its associated power and emissions positions and trading strategies.
The senior energy advisor will report to the Principal Manager, Trading and Energy Operations. Although this position will have no direct reports, the expectation is that the successful candidate will have experience in Natural Gas, Power and Emissions and will mentor the other members of the team. The senior energy advisor will be expected to make strategic and tactical trading and risk management decisions on a daily basis.
Develops and seeks SCE senior andexecutive level management approval of trading strategies for the Company’sfinancial and physical natural gas exposures.
Analyzes and measures effectivenessof existing strategies, processes, methods, tools and products to determineimprovements, enhancements and efficiencies. Evaluates how theanalysis of supply and demand fundamentals impact our natural gas procurementstrategy
Executes and manages short andintermediate-term (up to 18 months) physical and financial natural gastransactions and is responsible for ensuring key commercial terms and pricingwith counterparties are achieved.
Supports gas, power and emissionsactivities, as necessary
Ensures physical gas schedulingplans and strategies are executed to utilize natural gas storage, park and loanagreements, and transportation contracts to transact, manage and schedule SCE’sphysical gas supplies on multiple gas pipelines (e.g. El Paso, SoCal Gas,PG&E).
Builds external businessrelationships with counterparties, producers, marketers, and brokers
Builds internal businessrelationships with leadership, directors and principal managers to ensureeffective trading strategies for natural gas, power and emissions trading areimplemented
Ensures the accurate and appropriateresponses to data requests and reports for regulators (e.g., California PublicUtilities Commission (CPUC), Quarterly Compliance Reporting (QCR), EnergyResources Recovery Account (ERRA), and Long Term Procurement Plan (LTPP),California Air Resources Board (CARB))
Acts as a mentor and supportsprofessional development opportunities for members of the Trading and EnergyOperations teams.
Promotes and supportsa culture of personal development and continuous improvement.
9 years of experience infunctions related to energy markets, energy trading, commodity trading, orfinancial risk management.
Strong leadership, communication,presentation, and negotiating skills to build consensus with stakeholders todevelop and maintain partnerships with support organizations and seniormanagement
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in,Economics, Finance, or Business or other related discipline 5 years of experience with operational planning, trading,and/or analysis of energy portfolios in deregulated wholesale power markets.
In-depth understandingof the operating rules and regulatory requirements of California energy andemissions markets, including knowledge of CAISO, CPUC, FERC and CARB
Experience with Energy Trading & Risk Managementsystems (e.g. Endur)
Theprimary work location for this position is Rosemead, CA
