About Energy Procurement & Management (EP&M)

Energy Procurement & Management (EP&M) ensures that our customers have enough electricity to meet their needs, through the output of SCE-owned generation plants and purchase of electricity from independent generators. We engage in multi-year contracts from both traditional and renewable generators, and conduct day-ahead and real-time trading to serve our customers’ electricity demands.

The job…

This position resides in the Trading and Marketing Operations (TMO) group within the Energy Procurement & Management organization which manages SCE’s $4+ billion/year power resource portfolio. The position works closely with SCE Trading personnel, external gas suppliers, and western region gas pipelines to manage SCE’s physical gas portfolio. Primary responsibilities include nominating all gas and transportation transactions within operational deadlines and supporting compliance policies and regulatory obligations. Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to learn and perform the energy scheduling functions in the California Independent System Operator.

Day to day…

  • Manages the daily gas nomination on various pipelines

  • Captures all transactions in Entegrate, the Energy Trading and Risk Management system

  • Verifies transactions with third parties and maintains strong relationships

  • Monitors pipeline volumes in pipeline EBBs and make appropriate changes

  • Communicates relevant operational and contractual pipeline information internally

  • Ensures and validates that the settlement information is accurate and complete, including review of Entegrate calculations

  • Maintains all associated spreadsheets, and updates as needed

  • Interfaces with Risk Control to ensure compliance with corporate risk policy

  • Retains understanding of contractual commitments, pipeline rates, and tariff regulations

  • Cross-trains in other scheduling responsibilities within TMO

Qualifications

You absolutely need to have...

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum of three years of experience in finance, accounting, deregulated energy markets or related fields

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel (e.g. Pivot Tables); submission of work sample will be required

Other stuff we believe would be helpful…

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Finance, or Engineering

  • Understanding of Western States gas markets

  • Experience scheduling gas on SoCalGas and/or El Paso Natural Gas pipeline systems

  • Understanding of California Independent System Operator

  • Experience scheduling power into wholesale energy markets

  • Self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment

  • Capable to work in a fast-paced environment and meet fixed daily deadlines

  • Desire to deliver quality work products and results

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and pursues continuous improvement

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Able to work rotating 10-hour shifts, 7/365 and overtime, as needed
