In this job, you’ll be part of the Trading and Marketing Operations (TMO) group within the Energy Procurement & Management organization which manages SCE’s $4+ billion/year power resource portfolio. You’ll work closely with SCE Trading personnel, external gas suppliers, and western region gas pipelines to manage SCE’s physical gas portfolio. Your primary responsibilities will include nominating all gas and transportation transactions within operational deadlines and supporting compliance policies and regulatory obligations. Additionally, you’ll be required to learn and perform the energy scheduling functions in the California Independent System Operator. A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Manage the daily gas nomination on various pipelines

  • Capture all transactions in Endur, the Energy Trading and Risk Management system

  • Verify transactions with third parties and maintains strong relationships

  • Monitor pipeline volumes in pipeline Electronic Bulletin Board (EBB) and make appropriate changes

  • Communicate relevant operational and contractual pipeline information internally

  • Ensure and validate that the settlement information is accurate and complete, including review of Endur calculations

  • Maintain all associated spreadsheets, and updates as needed

  • Interface with Risk Control to ensure compliance with corporate risk policy

  • Retain understanding of contractual commitments, pipeline rates, and tariff regulations

  • Cross-train in other scheduling responsibilities within TMO

  • Establishes recommendations and conclusions based on analysis of data

  • Identify and execute process improvement opportunities across existing processes

  • Maintains a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices; and performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in finance, accounting, deregulated energy markets or related fields

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (e.g. Pivot Tables); submission of work sample will be required

  • Able to work rotating schedules, 10-hour shifts, 7/365 and overtime, as needed

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Finance, or Engineering

  • Understanding of Western States gas markets

  • Experience scheduling gas on SoCalGas and/or El Paso Natural Gas pipeline systems

  • Understanding of California Independent System Operator

  • Experience scheduling power into wholesale energy markets

  • Self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment

  • Capable to work in a fast-paced environment and meet fixed daily deadlines

  • Desire to deliver quality work products and results

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and pursues continuous improvement

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
