This job is to serve as an in-depth introduction to renewable resource procurement, emerging energy technologies, wholesale energy market transactions, and California Independent System Operator (CAISO) energy market operations.

The successful candidate(s) will utilize their analytical proficiency and collaboration skills to support Energy Procurement and Management (EPM) teams in energy contracting, planning, trading, forecasting and valuation, and market operation activities by rotating through several functional groups, all critical to providing safe, reliable, affordable, and clean energy to SCE’s customers.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Solve complex problems and perform analyses of new business situations through coordination across EPM teams.

  • Build relationships between SCE and counterparties through project development, amendments, consents, and on-going contract administration.

  • Lead cross-department stakeholder teams in the administration of short- and long-term energy contracts with Independent Power Producers, financial institutions and other market participants.

  • Evaluate and manage contract requirements, review payments, manage disputes and make strategic recommendations to maximize benefits to customers.

  • Update forecast and operational data and utilize simulation/optimization models to develop least-cost dispatch plans for SCE’s generating resources and power contracts.

  • Assist in bidding strategy coordination, implementation, and after the fact analysis for a complex portfolio of resources.

  • Utilize after the fact analysis to enhance the planning process, strategies, and overall utilization of SCE’s supply portfolio.

  • Analyze market trends in the energy and ancillary services markets.Use and improve statistical and econometric models to forecast electricity demand and energy commodity prices to support position management and hedging.

  • Perform contract valuations for conventional, renewable and distributed energy resource solicitations and bilateral negotiations.

  • Support congestion revenue rights procurement to hedge energy congestion risk.

  • Identify and execute process improvement opportunities across EPM.

  • Maintain a safety-conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.

  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Possess 3 to 5 years of experience in modeling (statistical, mathematical, econometric, or financial), optimization, planning, energy contracts, or project management, particularly in the electric industry.

The preferred

  • Graduated in the past 36 months or will graduate by June 2023 with a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, or related fields.

  • Experience with quantitative analysis.

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Understanding of the CAISO or other energy market design.

  • Experience researching information, analyzing it, preparing reports and making recommendations.

  • Experience developing and delivering technical presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience completing multiple projects concurrently while adjusting to changing priorities.

  • Experience interfacing and collaborating with clients, peers, management, and other departments.

  • Effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovations.

  • Strong ethics, leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively engage in continuous learning and improvement.

You should know …

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid.  The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

  • Reporting schedule for this role is currently one day in the office per week, with the option to work remotely on the remaining days
