The Job…

The Employee Relations Investigator handles the investigation of non-complex cases related to work environment, leadership behavior, performance. With direction and guidance from the ER Senior Manager, you will be responsible for providing recommendations to all levels of leadership regarding remedial and/or corrective actions resulting from investigations conducted by ER, Ethics, and/or Corporate Security in accordance with applicable CA state and Federal laws, and SCE policies.

You will also be responsible for providing coaching and guidance to employees and leaders pertaining to concerns that have been submitted and must have the ability to ascertain and analyze non-complex cases and situations in order to determine and provide the appropriate recommendation(s) to address the issue(s). In addition, you will be responsible for work environment reviews, conflict resolution, mediation, and training on the corrective action process as applicable.

Detailed stuff you will be doing …

  • Conduct a broad spectrum of investigations including but not limited to work environment, leadership behavior, performance as well as harassment, etc.

  • Handle non-complex investigations that involve significant concerns including the investigations that include and is not limited to regulatory, financial, and accounting issues with guidance from Senior Manager.

  • Define and plan the scope of the investigation and determines and identifies the initial list of individuals to interview including witnesses, affected parties, reporting parties and subject(s). Prior to each investigation, the ER Investigator determines all applicable parties who need to be notified/involved including all levels of leadership up to and including executives.

  • Review and identify applicable codes, laws, and policies based on the investigation plan.

  • Conduct interviews with the reporting party, subject, affected parties, and witnesses. Review pertinent and applicable documents, forensic data, and gather the relevant facts to reach an investigatory conclusion.

  • With guidance from the Senior Manager, you will provide recommendations to all levels of leadership regarding remedial and/or corrective actions resulting from investigations conducted by ER in accordance with applicable CA state and Federal laws, and SCE policies.

  • Provide the recommended course(s) of action(s) to assigned Organizational Units.

  • Review historical investigations from multiple sources including Report of Investigations (ROIs) from Ethics, Corporate Security etc. and background of prior/similar cases, policies, and corrective action guidelines to identify trends, specific circumstances, mitigating, and aggravating factors.

  • Conduct legal review prior to presenting the corrective action recommendation to OU leaders.

  • Partner with assigned OU to provide accurate and timely briefings to senior management and executive leadership regarding the results of the various investigations and any proposed corrective actions. As appropriate, partners with the HR Business Partner during management briefings.

  • Conduct 30, 60 or 90-day follow up plan with the OU for improvement and sustainability within the work environment.

  • Draft well written and comprehensive Reports of Investigation that contain factual, fair, and objective support for any conclusions and recommended corrective actions reached in the investigation.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

You absolutely need to have:

  • 3 years of experience working in HR.

  • Experience working with state/federal laws & regulations within an Employee Relations capacity

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of training or experience.

  • HRCI and/or SHRM Certification, preferred.

  • Ability to construct concise and well-written communications.

  • Ensure compliance of company policies and practices by responding to inquiries regarding policy and procedure interpretation.

  • Assist with determining root cause and develop proactive strategies to effectively reduce undesirable activity and sustain positive results.

  • Cultivate a strong client-oriented service rapport with HR Business Partner teams, and other internal partners, that is based on a high level of collaboration and inclusion.

  • Support a fair and inclusive workplace that safeguards the company’s employment brand by ensuring that employee and company interests are handled in a fair and consistent manner.
