Become a Data Engineering and Advanced Analytics, Senior Manager at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this role, you will lead the Data Engineering and Advanced Analytics practice, as part of our Digital and Process Transformation team in IT. You will focus on developing and driving a culture of data-driven decision-making enabled, through the delivery of advanced analytics solutions that are high quality, timely, accurate, and actionable and supported by data engineering.
This leadership role involves conducting research and analysis of emerging trends and technologies, updating SCE advanced analytics strategy and practices to leverage emerging trends, align with SCE and IT strategic goals and objectives, and support operationalizing of advanced analytics solutions across enterprise. You’ll lead the oversight and development of data engineering practices, and work to support advanced analytics (guiding development, improving the effectiveness of tools supporting data engineering, promoting standards, guidelines, and best practices). In addition, as the Sr Manager you will lead the Data Science Center of Excellence practice including standards, methodology, best practices, and a consolidated use case backlog. They will also lead the orchestration and alignment of data activities across the enterprise with the goal of establishing a Data Governance Center of Excellence.

As the Sr Manager of this team, you will drive the advanced analytics strategy and roadmap in alignment with SCE strategic goals and objectives. This involves solution design, development and delivery of predictive and prescriptive solutions based on the roadmap, utilizing artificial intelligence, data mining, statistical and machine learning techniques. You will need to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the business and IT, requiring strong information management and leadership skills to solve problems, create operational efficiencies, and deliver successfully against high value, highly complex use cases.
You will play an integral role in strategic decision making and have leadership for the team of data engineers and data scientists responsible for delivering solutions, including the following:
Develop advanced quantitative models using a variety of programs and software to support predictive and prescriptive assessments, including risk analysis, and communicating to stakeholders
Responsible for design and execution of complex analyses and developing advanced analytics models, including optimization, text analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, social-science modeling, and statistical analysis, parametric and non-parametric statistical models and techniques
Provide recommendations for plans, programs, strategies, policies, and budgets
Apply strong understanding of data science techniques and libraries to business problems
People Management:
Manages resources and budgets to deliver data engineering and advanced analytics solutions (mix of SCE employees, supplemental workers, consultants, and contingent workers).
Provides timely and constructive performance feedback to all direct reports.
Mentors employees and works with each employee to build development plans.
Effectively manages staffing levels and skills to ensure capacity, knowledge and competencies meet the objectives of the organization as well as the OU demands. Builds and maintains resource plans to ensure level workloads and sufficient coverage for project work across sub-portfolios.
Process:
Provides oversight to all aspects of strategic planning within the data and advanced analytics portfolio area.
Partners with SCE SMEs and leadership to understand the business problems, goals, and objectives of the data science use cases to recommend prioritization and sequencing of technology demand, and delivery of solutions.
Aligns business needs and capabilities to ensure direction and standards are set, communicated, and maintained.
Acts as a bridge between business groups and IT, using business knowledge of operations, processes, rules and controls, and technical knowledge of tool capabilities and existing configuration, to develop and enhance new and existing business processes and solutions.
Leads the ongoing work to manage and develop the Centers of Excellence for Data Science and Data Governance. Performs demand management, requirements management, benefits case development, and client relationship management. Supports team members in resolving risks/issues, participates in project governance committee and steering team meetings. Ensures outcomes that satisfy requirements and quality targets for the delivered solutions.
Technology:
Provides requirements to core IT regarding technology needs to support data engineering and advanced analytics across the enterprise.
Facilitate technology solution evaluations, recommendations, and impact assessments in collaboration with core IT.
Facilitates the escalation and resolution of technology & architectural issues through a standard governance model.
Customer Orientation:
Engage in frequent interactions with business SMEs and leadership and core IT groups regarding business objectives and priorities related to data engineering and advanced analytics.
Develops business domain knowledge to facilitate techno-functional dialogue as it pertains to strategic planning.
Initiate and sustain open and transparent dialogue on OU & IT interactions and dynamics, successfully navigate through conflicts, build trust and credibility through delivery of commitments.
Strategy & Innovation:
Develop, communicate, and get alignment for the strategy and roadmap for data engineering and advanced analytics capabilities, including short- and long-term plans in collaboration with IT and the business.
Keep abreast of current and new advancements in the field and provide thought leadership, perspectives, and research around process, technology, and techniques to improve solutions.
Develop relationships with individuals at other utilities and participate in relevant industry forums and groups.
Qualifications
The Data Engineering and Advanced Analytics, Sr Manager must possess a broad base of skills and knowledge across digital technologies and be a technical leader with a proven track record of building and leading teams. You will balance high priority work against executing on a long-term vision and will be security-conscious and continually analyze software to safeguard against potential threats. Your ultimate success hinges on your ability to collaborate closely with peers while influencing decision makers.
The essentials
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Sciences (such as Business Analytics or Informatics) or related field of study.
Five (5) or more years of experience mentoring, supervising, and leading an organization.
Five (5) or more years of experience managing/ supervising technical resources.
Five (5) or more years of hands-on experience in data and advanced analytics solution development and delivery experience.
Focused desire to build Data and Advanced Analytics products and services that customers will love
Experience with data science methodologies and practices
Experience with data engineering practices, including data modeling knowledge and skills
Technical experience and knowledge of enterprise data warehouse technology or platforms such as – Snowflake, Google Big Query, Oracle, SQL Server, SAP Hana/BW
Experience with Agile product development methodologies working on Scrum teams.
Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent leadership skills with experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Experience working with clients to understand requirements and envision data science and data management solutions
Experience applying strategic thinking, self-motivation, taking independent initiative, and creative problem-solving.
A diligent attention to detail and strong technical intuition.
Experience managing time and schedules to meet aggressive deadlines and influence through persuasive written and verbal communication, as well as the ability to set and manage expectations at the executive level
The preferred
Experience working with big data tools and data storage such as SAP HANA, Hadoop, Snowflake, etc.
Experience with cloud computing (ex. Azure, Google GCP, AWS)
Experience with SQL,and working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL), as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.
Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
Experience in manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets
Experience and broad understanding of the electric utility industry and its regulatory environment.
Understanding of and experience with electric utility functions and related datasets
Specialized understanding of one or more electric utility business areas such as Customer Services, Transmission & Distribution, Power Supply, Generation, system operations or planning
You should know
This position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

The primary work location for this position is Rosemead, CA however, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
Position may require up to 5 - 10% traveling between alternate SCE work location sites.
Relocation does not apply to this position.
