Position Overview

The Manager will provide oversight and strategic direction in the execution and monitoring of operational activities to ensure efficient service delivery to business users by managing the Manage Service Provider service offering in the resolution of application issues and the delivery of enhancements/upgrades.

Will communicate and coordinate with other IT teams, business leadership, and project managers to ensure appropriate integration of operational activities across the Enterprise, including application stability and data integrity.

The Manager will be responsible for day-to-day operations and policy adherence, with oversight over the following areas:

  • Partners with Operating Units in the Enterprise client groups to report operational portfolio health and ensure satisfaction in the timely delivery of IT services to the business lines.

  • Management of Applications Maintenance Team to direct the maintenance, break-fix and other operational activities for applications within their portfolio of responsibility.

  • Integrates with Planning and Architecture team in technology planning for initiatives and roadmap development.

  • Integrates with Solution Delivery team to ensure quality of project transition into the operations team.

  • Monitors, measures and partners with Managed Service Providers to ensure quality and timeliness of resolution for application issues, operational activities and enhancement delivery.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Provides management oversight and strategic direction to a team of service managers with highly technical capabilities.

  • Provides coaching to ensure effective management skills in the organization.

  • Manages employee performance for both direct and/or matrixed reports.

  • Establishes performance expectations and goals aligned with Company objectives, policies and procedures.

  • Manages, trains and develops staff by providing timely feedback, coaching and support.

  • Demonstrates Company values through decisions and actions.

  • Promotes the Company’s safety culture to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Plans for efficient use of staff. Maintain necessary staffing levels. Ensure open positions are filled in a timely manner.

  • Partners with other operational towers within IT (Infrastructure, Security, Service Integration, etc.…) and with management from other IT organizations (Cyber Security, Enterprise Architecture and Planning, and Delivery).

  • Works directly with Senior Operating Unit leadership to report out the operational health, issue resolution and service improvements being performed in their area of responsibility.

  • Manages Capital and O&M budget within prescribed goals.

  • Performs strategic budget planning to ensure adequate resources to meet long term goals.

  • Ensures budget is spent in an efficient manner, with the correct priorities.

  • Managed Service Provider (MSP) Management.

  • Partners with MSP Application management to ensure timely delivery operational services are met within service level agreements.

  • Partners with MSP Application management to drive service improvements within the IT Operations.

  • Partners with MSP management in other service towers like Infrastructure, Security, etc…to integrate delivery of operational services.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

  • 4 years of service management experience and operational responsibility of multiple applications and database environments.

  • 5 years of technical experience in SAP application development & maintenance.

  • Experience in managing a broad SAP environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) practices, processes and principles.

  • ITIL v3 Foundation Certified.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Information Technology.

  • Master’s Degree in Business or Information Technology.

  • Experience with having technical conversations or making technical presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience in managing an IT Operation (people and technology) in a managed services environment.

  • Good understanding of multiple Enterprise Applications (SAP Finance, SAP HCM, SAP EAM, SAP GRC, Basis, PO etc.) and databases (HANA, Oracle, SQL, DB2, Sybase).


  • Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.

  • Some light travel is required for this position.

  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
