Supervises engineers and contractors engaged in the planning and design of electric distribution systems and facilities. Provides project level recommendations toward the capital budget forecast. Oversees technical studies including interconnection of distributed generation and new customer block loads. Studies to include but not limited to thermal loading, voltage stability and control, coordination of protection devices, N-1 analysis, and reliability. Oversees the engineering and design of the electric distribution system to ensure that safe, reliable, and cost-effective facilities are constructed. Provides engineering services and support for the construction and maintenance of the electric distribution facilities.


•Supervises and approves the work of Distribution Planning groups toward the completion of capital project recommendations to the annual capital budget forecasts focused on system performance enhancement of the electric distribution system. (20%, P)

•Supervises and approves the work of Distribution Planning groups toward the completion of technical studies focused on project recommendations needed to interconnect distributed generation and new customer facilities to the electric distribution system. (20%, P)

•Approves electric distribution planning criteria, technical standards, and equipment specifications for use on the electric distribution system. (10%, S)

•Guides planning studies to evaluate system condition and operational issues in support of electric distribution system reliability and operating efficiency. (20%, P)

•Performs individual and group performance evaluations, recommends candidates for hire and salary adjustments, provides coaching and counseling toward performance improvement and guides development of personnel. (20%, P)

•Oversees engineering consultants who provide planning services to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements. (10%, S)

•Can serve as Department leader in the absence of the Manager of Electric Distribution Planning. Assists during storm restoration.

Skills and Requirements

•BSEE Degree

•5–8 years of relevant experience

•Advanced Degree and/or PE License desired

•Advanced knowledge of electric distribution power systems and planning

•General knowledge of supervisory principles, theories, and techniques


•Effective leadership skills
