Job Summary

Substation Maintenance - Distribution Field Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operation of maintaining, trouble shooting and constructing LIPA Substations. Acceptable candidate will manage up to 25 field technicians and mechanics.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities (include, but not limited to the following):

• Analytical ability to interpret substation design and provide alternatives that are more cost effective.

• Lead and motivate contract personnel to successfully perform maintenance and construction activities.

• Manage projects to ensure they stay within budget constraints.

• Collaborate with various organizations to ensure the successfully completion of projects.

• Develops creative solutions of the absence of proper material.

• Technical ability in all facets of electrical equipment maintenance and substation construction.

• Develops a coordinated construction plan to successfully complete the projects.

• Respond to equipment failures, recommend troubleshooting methods and interpret test data.

• Recommend design solutions to construction problems.

• Participates in supervisor’s 24 hour standby schedule for consultation and advice to others on substation equipment issues and for dispatching substation maintenance technicians during emergencies.

• Provide Emergency restoration support.

Job Specific Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, with a minimum of 3 years' experience in the in Substation Maintenance, or other areas of repair and troubleshooting electrical equipment in substations and construction of substations

Or, a minimum of a high school diploma with a minimum of seven years' experience in the maintenance, repair and troubleshooting electrical equipment in substations, power plants, facilities and construction of substations.

Capable of interpreting engineering designs and modify designs as required

Ability to read and interpret schematic and wiring diagrams.

Supervisory experience relating to contract personnel.

Experience using MS Office (Excel, Word and Access).

Knowledgeable of all the Operating Instructions and General Operating Procedures regarding a Transmission and Distribution system.

Must have a valid US Driver’s License with a safe driving history

Preferred

Experience working in a Union environment is a plus.

Knowledgeable in SAP and Maximo, Oracle, and Maynard estimating.

Knowledge of the Collective Bargaining agreement.

Detailed knowledge relating to maintaining troubleshooting and repairing all types of electrical equipment found in substations and power plants.
