The Senior Business Development Manager will be responsible for leading commercial and business development / acquisition activities for Dominion Energy Virginia’s utility scale energy storage business. The position requires supporting the successful development and execution of power generation energy storage projects in the Commonwealth of Virginia for compliance with the Virginia Clean Economy Act, which has created the largest mandate for energy storage projects to be built in the United States.
The Senior Business Development Manager is considered a leadership role with project management responsibilities that include leading development and acquisition activities. For project acquisition opportunities, this role is responsible for leading various negotiation efforts and for planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing projects. For the development of power generation energy storage projects, the Senior Business Development Manager is accountable for the entire project scope, project team, local permitting, corporate governance and senior management communications. The Senior Business Development Manager is expected to mentor other team members in aspects of power generation project development, project acquisition, and energy storage technologies.
With extensive knowledge of the power industry, the Senior Business Development Manager is responsible for leading and pursuing growth strategies and opportunities. This includes leading evaluation, analysis, due diligence activities, and negotiations for prospective generation asset acquisition and development opportunities. This position requires extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience with energy storage technologies, market rules, business cases, safety best practices and associated technological risks with energy storage project development.
The Senior Business Development Manager is the lead participant in negotiations of project contracts and agreements, pro forma financial modeling and analysis, preparation of regulatory filings, executive level communications, preparation of governance materials and public presentations. This includes leading internal teams from multiple disciplines and departments including construction, operations, external affairs, public policy, corporate communications, legal, tax, accounting, environmental, risk management, fuels, treasury, public/investor relations and financial analysis. It is expected the position will collaborate with our Project Construction and Operations teams to ensure industry best practices are incorporated with development projects and smooth project transitions take place between departments during the project life cycle.
The successful candidate is expected to broker and maintain extensive energy storage technical/commercial/development/market/regulatory relationships that will ensure the company has access to the most recent industry/project/technological information that is currently available.
Other duties expected:• Recommend energy storage technology providers for investment considerations based on due diligence activities• Recommend new energy storage development projects in support of company goals• Develop structured and repeatable energy storage development processes to support 2,700MW VCEA build requirement in Virginia, including DEV’s annual energy storage procurement process• Implement development strategies with key external stakeholders, including local county officials• Lead energy storage regulatory approval efforts for new, owned energy storage projects• Performance of other duties as requested or assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
7+ years of directly relevant experience is required (financial analysis, project management, account management, contract negotiations, project development, or other like).
Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will count towards a full year towards the requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
An industry expert with extensive knowledge of energy storage power development and production business and energy markets generally acquired through related work experience.
Additionally, candidates are required to have 3 or more years of experience at an energy storage technology provider, a firm within the energy storage supply chain, at a consultancy firm specializing in energy storage, or with a project developer that designed standalone or paired storage systems.
Superior financial analysis skills, including ability to review and make investment recommendations based on pro forma financial statement inputs and results.
Experience in leading commercial contract negotiations, acquisition and divestiture activities, and development of large generation facilities.
Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.
Exemplary leadership and demonstrated communication abilities (oral/written/presentation/interpersonal) amongst technical, commercial and regulatory audiences is a must. The successful candidate will be able to drive results in a team environment under minimal direction with internal and external customers. Ability to analyze information and make strategic business decisions. Strong organizational, risk analysis, and project planning/execution skills are also required. Must be able to effectively prioritize multiple key project efforts. Demonstrated computer skills including all MS Office applications.
