Dominion Voltage Inc. is seeking an energetic entry level Engineer for our Richmond, Virginia location. This role applies engineering expertise to the electric distribution grid to leverage the new capabilities associated with smart grid technologies and applications.
This role will work on the engineering of a cutting-edge distribution control and analysis platform and implement new product requirements through a knowledge of distribution software and a learned expertise in EDGE products. This role will help analyze voltage a power measurement data for research and analysis. The product and engineering knowledge will be applied both in customer support analysis and on-site in helping new customers install and integrate the EDGE software solution. The successful candidate will perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred candidates will have power systems training and exposure to current distribution grid technologies.• Data analysis skills including, but not limited to, statistical techniques and/or machine learning. Electric distribution exposure preferred as well as IT skills sufficient to interact with databases and deploy software in our test environment.• Electrical Engineering with Power Systems exposure is strongly desired.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
0-2 years related engineering experience
Specific education or experience with smart grid technologies or other voltage reduction techniques is a plus.
Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals and theory
Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing)
Effective decision making skills
Computer skills and application of software programs
Analytical and abstract thinking skills
Problem solving skills
Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems
Ability to develop effective planning, project and organization skills
Ability to develop project management skills and to handle multiple tasks
Ability to work within a team environment
- Proficient with data manipulation using software tools/applications, such as: Microsoft Excel, SQL queries, Spark Python, Matlab, SAS programming or statistical packages.
Bachelor Degree or higher is preferred but an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education. Eligible candidates can still be pursuing their degree but must obtain degree by June 2020.
Required Discipline: Electrical, Computer or Power Systems Engineering
Candidates must meet one of the following in order to satisfy the educational requirements for this opening. REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: 1) Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or;2) Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or;3) Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or;4) Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or;5) Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
