The Fuel Business Group is associated with the BWR/PWR fuel design and production for nuclear reactors.

The Richland Thermal Hydraulics Department:

The Richland Thermal Hydraulics department is responsible for supporting the licensing and operation of Framatome fuels in commercial reactors. Within this scope, the department develops steady-state, transient and accident methodologies, and computer codes and applies them to the licensing of BWR fuel. The department also supports the design and development of advanced fuel designs and supports developing solutions for emerging industry issues. To achieve this charter, the department is composed of multiple customer focused reload teams as well as a codes and methods team. The Richland Thermal Hydraulics department commonly interacts with peer departments in other regions of the world (Virginia, France and Germany).

Job Description:

Framatome is seeking a Thermal-HydraulicsEngineer II - IVfor ourRichland, WAfacility. This qualified individual will work in a team of engineers utilizing USNRC approved computer codes and methodology used for safety analyses in support of Framatome fuel in boiling water reactors (BWRs). Specifically, the position is focused on reload and safety analyses needed to license BWRs for each operating cycle.

Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Perform engineering assignments that are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity.

  • Display technical competence on assignments.

  • Perform work in compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulated policies and procedures.

  • Interface with internal and external customers on technical issues.

  • Prepare and apply nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulic models for plant safety analyses and is involved in the preparation of engineering documents (calculations, reports, functional requirements, Final Safety Analysis Reports, etc.) in support of emergent issues, fuel reloads, proposed changes in fuel designs or operating strategies and evaluate changes in analytical methods.

  • Analyses are performed to support reload core design and licensing, assess proposed changes in fuel designs or operating strategies, resolve plant operation issues, or evaluate changes in analytical methods.

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.

  • Engineer II: BS in Engineering PLUS 2-3 years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Engineer III: BS in Engineering PLUS 3-5 years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Engineer IV: BS in Engineering PLUS 5-7 years of relevant engineering experience.

o An advanced degree may be substituted for related experience (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.).

o BS, MS, or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or other scientific degree with applicable nuclear industry experience.

  • Previous experience related to Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) operation.

  • The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position. *

  • Previous experience with Framatome BWR Thermal-Hydraulic licensing tools and methods.

  • Previous experience with USNRC reload licensing requirements (NUREG-800, 10CFR50.59, 10CFR50.46, 10CFR50 Appendix B, etc).

  • Experience with BWR reload campaigns focused on thermal-hydraulic applications using USNRC approved methodologies.

  • Experience with programming languages (FORTRAN, C, or C ).

  • Proficiency with UNIX/LINUX.
