Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 15 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
This position is in SCE’s Vegetation Management (VM) Compliance and Support Department and reports directly to the VM Operations Support Manager. The primary purpose of this position is to develop, manage, and oversee the ongoing VM work scheduling process for nearly 1 million trees that are trimmed annually across the entire SCE service territory.
This position will develop and manage the annual VM work plan provided to VM Operations and will ensure VM activities such as pre-inspections, pruning, and tree removals, are appropriately scheduled, implemented, and completed without delay to ensure compliance with all internal and external regulatory requirements such as NERC Standard FAC-003-4 and CPUC General Order 95. This position is directly responsible for performing a multitude of prerequisite tasks that will ensure VM work is satisfactorily implemented and completed without delays or negative impacts that can result in penalties, fines, or loss of reputational value for the Company.
This individual will manage work interruptions, delays, and unplanned/emergent work that may arise.Work interruptions may include the inability to access areas scheduled for VM maintenance for conditions such as inaccessibility, lack of permitting, environmental regulations, etc., many of which may be unique and without established precedence.When such conditions are identified, this position is responsible for interfacing with appropriate internal and/or external entities to resolve the cause of impact, while making appropriate schedule adjustments to ensure schedule adherence.
This position will also be the Single Point of Contact for unscheduled VM requests from districts, other OUs requesting VM support, and other internal/external agencies.
Typical Responsibilities :
Managing the evaluation, development and implementation of the work scheduling process and methodology for the entire VM operation.
Developing, managing, and adjusting VM monthly schedules by circuit/grid and vendor to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements and providing schedules to operations personnel and applicable vegetation contractors.
Making strategic decisions regarding establishing and changing project direction as conditions change. Keeping management informed, as necessary.
Managing and directing cross-functional teams to keep schedules on track, avoid non-compliance issues, and ensuring smooth coordination of prerequisite tasks such as obtaining property owner permission, environmental surveys, and road clearing permits with applicable internal and external entities.
This position is expected to address issues and solve problems, as necessary, by accomplishing objectives through professionals in other organizations (both internal and external).
Managing, resolving and making decisions on work/maintenance schedule interruptions to avoid business unit impact.
Being the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for unscheduled VM requests from districts and other OUs requesting VM support.
In support of these activities this position will be required to represent the Company, both internally and externally, through frequent interaction with contractors, suppliers, regulatory agencies, customers, other departments, and/or other parties as required.
Seven or more years of experience performing work scheduling.
Three or more years of experience managing projects.
Two years-experience performing and/or scheduling vegetation related work.
Experience developing a work scheduling process.
Experience working with internal departments and/or external agencies related to permitting and environmental regulations.
Experience coordinating complex business activities with multiple dependencies both internal and external to the company.
General knowledge of Vegetation Management Codes and Standards such as NERC Standard FAC-003, GO95 Rule 35/37, Public Resource Codes 4292 & 4293.
Must be able to work in a fast paced and highly demanding work environment.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, track status, and provide management reports.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Power Point.
