Job Summary

Locations are subject to change based on business need.

This position supports the operations process in providing and maintaining service to new and existing customers by maintaining a working knowledge of computer system, tools, equipment, and material. The position should demonstrate proficiency in the day-to-day operations and specifications of the distribution system and in the general understanding of basic distribution engineering. In addition to normal work, position must be available to be on-call as required, take first call (demonstrated ability to work independently), and to work all hours as needed, day or night, weekends or holidays, to perform work required during planned outages, non-pay reconnects or emergency situations. This position should demonstrate leadership within the work group in promoting safety, incorporating Human Performance fundamentals, developing craft and technical skills in others, mentoring less experienced technicians, as well as being placed as the person in charge as directed by supervision. The position must perform all duties in a safe manner and adhere to all Company safety rules and procedures.

Responsibilities

Incumbent performs hands on construction and maintenance of electrical distribution system.

The position demonstrates the ability to analyze problems, propose recommendations, interpret a variety of instructions and perform complex tasks to resolve practical problems. Demonstrate the ability to handle situations requiring the search for solutions were limited standardization exist through previous experience, specification manual, or as directed by supervision. Able to coordinate and plan work schedules to meet operational goals and ensure safety, customer satisfaction and productivity.

Working Conditions

  • Work location is predominantly outside in the field, performing work in all weather conditions. Required to work in extreme weather conditions, rain snow, sleet, heat, etc.

  • Work is required at all times of the day and night 7 days a week

  • Position requires working at high elevations, climbing poles, working in a bucket and climbing ladders

  • Routine use of hand tools and routine lifting of heavy equipment. Possible lift up to 100lbs on occasion.

  • Operation of heavy equipment of large trucks

  • Frequent handling of materials

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • Minimum of 5 years of line and service experience

  • Valid Class A CDL

  • Experienced climber

  • Thorough understanding of Overhead and Underground insulate and isolate principles. Experience working on overhead lines (secondary and primary lines).

Desired Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of an electrical distribution system. Troubleshooting skills and ability to assess level or repair required for overhead and underground systems.

  • Able to perform self-directed jobs

  • 7+ years of experience as a line and service technician

  • Proficient with work management systems, tools, equipment, and vehicles necessary to perform line and service work

  • Proficient in constructing, maintaining, and operating the distribution system, and performing customer service work to ensure public safety and customer satisfaction

  • Proficient in knowing and understanding the electrical distribution system

  • Experience in leading and mentoring less experienced employees in all aspects of their jobs

  • Strength in promoting personal and work group safety practices to prevent accidents and injuries

  • Awareness of Human Performance fundamentals and how to incorporate into daily work practices

  • Respirator Clearance

  • This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.

  • Work schedule requires working various shifts as business needs arise

  • Position has on-call responsibilities as scheduled and generally available at other times as needed, demonstrate the ability to work independently, and to work all hours as needed, day or night, weekends or holidays, and in all weather conditions to perform work required during planned and emergency outages.

  • Requires ability to travel and stay overnight to various locations and work extended hours to assist in major storm restoration

  • This position has a residency requirement. You must reside within a 30-mile radius of the hiring operations site. In order to meet with aforementioned position requirement, you will be required to relocate from your current residence within 12 months of your start date. Relocation will be entirely at your own expense.

  • Ability to successfully complete Mid-Level Skills Assessment Test

  • Ability to attend various training classes and successfully complete a mid-level qualification program (MLARQ)
