Job Summary:

This is a secondary level supervisory leadership position that is responsible for one or more functional groups and may be aligned to a business unit partner’s regional area. The General Supervisor is responsible for operational efficiencies, resource management, CI excellence, service levels and safety targets. A strategic partner with senior leadership in developing goals, measurements and targets for applicable Corporate Services and company priorities. Responsible for optimizing processes that balance business unit partner demand with organization financial strategies. Act as the direct liaison for Manager. Span of control 6 to 8 direct reports including non-representative, representative and contractors.

Key Accountabilities:

-Supervises first level supervisors, represented and non-represented and/or contract employees in the utilization of available resources to plan, schedule and execute prevailing priorities and productivity considerations for operational units of Corporate Services (Facilities, Fleet, or Supply Chain).

-Leadership responsibilities include safety, team building, coaching, CI development and talent and workforce planning. Ensures that all appropriate safety and compliance related training occurs within work team.

-Motivates through “leading by example,” coaching/mentoring and providing ongoing constructive feedback to subordinate staff; competent in systematically eliciting the best efforts and results from subordinate staff.

-Promotes an atmosphere conducive to the open exchange of new ideas, and alternatives to standard approaches. Advocate for safety and continuous improvement culture; working safe and 200% accountability, problem solving, process improvements and sustainable.

-Identifies client/customer operational requirements as an input for budget development and implementation of operational strategies and partnership principles to support corporate goals, Corporate Services goals, measures and targets.

-Develops workable implementation plans and goals; communicate change effectively, build commitment and overcome resistance. Prepare and support those affected by change, monitor transition and evaluate results.

-Develops internal and external business relationships with vendors, suppliers and other organizations to ensure effective contract management execution.

-Participates in all aspects of the Union/Management relationship, including partnership teams, interest based bargaining sessions and grievances.

-Provides leadership through example in a unionized environment, consistent with prevailing collection bargaining agreements (typically based on experience in a unionized environment).

-Administers attendance reviews, positive discipline, coaching, training, performance reviews, work management procedures, safety, pre-job briefs, continuous improvement, PRTs, environmental and compliance regulations and interpretation of labor agreement.

-Ensures that all work is in accordance with applicable company, state (MISOSHA) and federal (OSHA) safety, health and environmental standards, regulations, policies and procedures.

-Acts as the coordinated lead for department standards and implementation for operations.

Warehouse Key Accountabilities:

Possess knowledge of service level ratings, material availability and evaluation techniques, procurement and inventory strategies, materials management, financial analysis, disposition of assets and administration of supplier relations. Knowledge of project/material/service specifications in one or more of the following areas: electrical/Gas equipment; general plant operations and maintenance; station/Substation operations & maintenance; Transmission/Distribution operations/maintenance or any other related operational or support disciplines. Demonstrates the skills to harness supplier resources to provide and deliver products/services that add value to DTE operations.

Qualifications

Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent and the knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through 10 plus years of experience (see “Experience”), OR

Associate degree in a business, engineering, economic, finance, facility management, fleet management, or supply chain management and the knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through 8 plus years of experience (see “Experience”)

Preferred: Bachelor degree in business, engineering, economic, finance, facility management, fleet management, procurement or supply chain management

-Experience must be in one or more of the following operations: distribution, fleet, facilities, production, storage, supply chain, warehouse or other related industrial experience including one (1) year of experience in formal leadership.

-Manage operations within approved budgets and continuously strives for additional production performance effectiveness and new methods to control costs.

-Able to make decisions under pressure, builds a consensus and can make difficult/unpopular decisions and considers impact of decisions.

-Ability to conduct effective and efficient meetings; manages meetings with forward progress, achieving milestones and optimal results

-Proficient verbal, written and presentation skills; communicates clearly with credibility and confidence

-In addition to normal job responsibilities, must be willing to perform an emergency or storm assignment as needed. Must be able to be on=call on off-hour to manage safety, workforce and operational concerns.

-Ability to travel and work at different locations within the Corporate Services service area.
