This important role will supervise Transmission and Distribution (T&D) engineers or program managers primarily responsible for the planning, project management, design, construction and maintenance of electric utility transmission systems. Additional responsibilities include engineering support of distribution systems.

SALARY RANGE: $83,750 - $138,150 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

  • Manage and supervise the work of assigned direct reports such as T&D Engineers and Program Managers.

  • Provide technical leadership for transmission engineering projects

  • Develop best practices and standards for transmission line design and construction in order to minimize risk and maintain high reliability of the electric transmission system

  • Coordinate the acquisition efforts and review of new LiDAR data to maintain compliance with company procedures

  • Assist with the planning, design, project management and installation of assigned transmission and distribution capital projects.

  • Provide leadership and support for transmission line operations and maintenance (O&M) activities including aerial and ground line patrols, pole inspection programs and hazard remediation.

  • Provide engineering leadership in addressing unplanned or emergency outages on the transmission system.

  • Plan, budget, direct, forecast and execute assigned capital and O&M budgets.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and supervisory support to assigned engineering staff in their efforts to meet Company and department goals.

  • Assist in the development of annual capital and O&M budgets.


  • Support safety, diversity, and social responsibility goals of the department and company.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and NERC regulations.

  • Responsible for identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Provide leadership and engineering support as needed during outages and emergencies.

  • Requires travel within the utility service territory and for support of corporate subsidiaries.


  • Minimum of three (3) or more years of engineering experience in electric utilities is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required. Power System emphasis preferred.

  • Prior supervisory or project leadership experience preferred.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration or the ability to become registered preferred.


  • Good working knowledge of the design and construction of electric utility transmission and distribution systems.

  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code and electric utility industry safety work practices.

  • Working knowledge of NERC reliability compliance standards.

  • Strong leadership, financial and technical skills.

  • Ability to lead and participate in cross-functional teams.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point).

  • Working experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and GT Viewer (GIS Applications) software.

  • Ability to learn and maintain proficiency with new systems and software as technology evolves.

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently within scope, budget and schedule.

  • Ability to coordinate and direct the work of engineers, program managers, technicians, and consulting engineers on assigned projects.

  • Proficiency in reading electrical one-lines, control drawings and schematics.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or continuously to lift, carry, push, pull or sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work environment: Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level, and occasionally outdoors in sometimes inclement weather. Worker may be subject to hazards including variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height, or close quarters. Must be capable of occasional travel (less than 10 days per year) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities.
