Black Hills Corporation Security Intern in Rapid City, South Dakota
CLOSING DATE: This position will close on April 8, 2018.
LOCATION: Rapid City, SD
Support and assist with various projects as assigned within the Company’s Security Department. These projects will be assigned consistent with the Company’s Internship Program with an emphasis on developing an understanding of the Company’s multiple business units and enhancing the intern’s ability to apply his/her education in a business environment.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manager IT & Corporate Security
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist Security team members in the development, testing, and implementation of security plans, products, and control techniques
Participates in the evaluation of vendor proposals, conducts process analysis, reviews information security architectures and recommends modifications to the information security operation to reduce costs or improve service.
Tests and implements appropriate security methods and control techniques such as firewalls, intrusion detection software, data encryption, etc.
Helps to develop communications and actively promotes related campaigns for information security awareness among all staff.
- Assist with physical and cyber security implementations as projects arise.
Maintain strong working relationships within the Security and IT Department.
Maintain supportive and respectful working relationships with all Black Hills Corporation employees and departments.

Post-secondary technical education required
Technical education with a focus on Cyber Security or Information Assurance is preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prepare and give presentations.
Attention to detail required.
Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to communicate with employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of business, employee and applicant information.
Participation in the Company’s Industry Orientation Experiences, which will include some travel.
Prepare and present a synopsis of experience with the Company at the end of the internship.
